Overweight (OW; body mass index [BMI] of 25.0 to 29.9 kg/m² ), and obesity (OB; BMI of 30 and greater kg/m²) are conditions where excessive fat accumulation presents a risk to health. Prepregnancy BMI and maternal excessive gestational weight (EGWG) gain are risk factors for higher infant birthweight and childhood OW or OB. The Nutrition and Exercise Lifestyle Intervention Program (NELIP) is a combined intervention designed to prevent EGWG in individuals with OW and OB. In the first section of the paper, I will place current conversations about data privacy within the broader context of restrictions that have been placed on reproductive rights by examining historical trajectories. Emphasis will be placed on the historical trajectory of how past policies and ideologies have worked against Roe v. Wade, and how this trajectory contributes to a decrease in access to abortions. Over the last year, three major tools were developed to examine key influences on AST and children’s health and well-being. These tools included two pilot surveys - one for parents and one for children from grades four to eight located in South Western Ontario. The third tool was a comprehensive travel diary for the child survey takers to fill out after completing their initial children’s pilot survey. Paramount attention is often afforded to pharmacotherapies being brought to market. The anticipation from companies, their shareholders, and the patients poised to benefit are met with stiff statistical and methodological requirements set forth by Health Canada’s Health Products and Food Branch (HPFB). Once a pharmacotherapy has been approved by the HPFB, however, the onus to monitor these drugs falls largely on the shoulders of Health Canada, the manufacturers, and to a lesser degree, the Drug Safety and Effectiveness Network (DSEN).
