BACKGROUND: The incidence of sexually transmitted infections has been increasing throughout the world. Additionally, substantial changes in emerging adults' attitudes toward sex and the popularization of premarital sex could further affect the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. With the high acceptability and effectiveness of instant messaging (IM) interventions for health promotion, there is potential for such interventions to improve condom use knowledge and promote safer sex practice.

OBJECTIVE: The study evaluates the feasibility of a nurse-led IM intervention to promote safer sex practices in emerging adults.

India is a large middle-income country and has surpassed China in overall population, comprising 20% of the global population (over 1.43 billion people). India is experiencing a major demographic shift in its aging population. Chronic diseases are common among older adults and can be persistent over the life course, lead to the onset of disability, and be costly. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, increased stress and anxiety has only further exacerbated the problem of violence in hospitals and other healthcare settings. Through the Safer Hospitals Initiative, Connecticut hospitals have united to develop and implement strategies to create a culture of safety for patients and staff within each of the institutions. This initiative applies the power of high reliability principles to standardize approaches to combatting violence in microsystems and macrosystems throughout an organization. Phase 1

Chronic pain is pain that lasts longer than 3 months or lasts longer than tissue healing should naturally take, which can limit patients’ daily activities. Chronic pain impacts 20% of people worldwide, preferentially affecting vulnerable and marginalized populations. We aimed to use fMRI/PET imaging of the brain to determine the efficacy and therapeutic use of Neuro-emotional Technique (NET) therapy for chronic pain patients. We anticipated that NET Therapy would result in decreased activity in areas of the brain associated with pain and decreased perception of pain. OBJECTIVES: Develop predictive models for a paediatric population that provide information for paediatricians and health authorities to identify children at risk of hospitalisation for conditions that may be impacted through improved patient care.

DESIGN: Retrospective healthcare utilisation analysis with multivariable logistic regression models.

DATA: Demographic information linked with utilisation of health services in the years 2006-2014 was used to predict risk of hospitalisation or death in 2015 using a longitudinal administrative database of 527 458 children aged 1-13 years residing in the Regione Emilia-Romagna (RER), Italy, in 2014.

Information presented here is based on 5-week volunteering experience at Primeros Pasos clinic in the rural Palajunoj Valley outside the city of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Almost all of the patient population is rural, indigenous Quiche Maya. Guatemala has a relatively high GDP and patient-doctor ratio (1000:1) compared to its neighboring Latin American countries, but these resources are extremely localized to its capital, Guatemala City, where 70% of the country’s physicians work.

Teaching Community Health Workers

In rural Rwandan villages, the communities are linked to healthcare through Community Health Workers (CHW). CHW are appointed based on village election and the requirement that they can read and write. The Rwandan Ministry of Health provides general health training to the CHW so that they can educate and advise the village on health related matters. CHW administer educational sessions at village meetings about prevalent health issues, and advise members of the village when they should go to the Health Center. • Cribs for Kids also provides education on how to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
• The organization hosts workshops throughout the city and home visits for those who cannot attend the workshops.
• Cribs for Kids also increases awareness about safe sleeping habits and their program by attending community health fairs.
• In the last year Cribs for Kids has provided families the city of Philadelphia with over 2,000 safe sleeping environments.

Bhutan, Burma, Iraq, Eritrea, Sudan, and Democratic Republic of Congo are the most frequent countries of origin in Philadelphia.

While refugees initially receive government aid (eg, Refugee Medical Assistance) upon arrival to the US, they often have unresolved medical concerns that persist beyond their initial period of government assistance (8 Months). To address these unmet health needs, Refugee Health Partners at Thomas Jefferson University started a free clinic targeting refugees from Bhutan and Burma living in South Philadelphia. An important finding from this clinic was that many refugees do not utilize the health care system, regardless of insurance status. Consequently, it is not known what health and social issues are most prevalent.

The disease management field continues to evolve. The range of chronic diseases treated has expanded to include such conditions as obesity and pain management, and the care continuum now encompasses wellness, prevention, and population health. One population that is an ideal candidate for our collective efforts is that of older adults. Global and national population projections reveal the impending staggering increase in the age 65+ cohort, which will cause a sharp increase in the demand for health care and other services due to such age-related issues as multiple chronic conditions, falls, and depression.

Patient Advocacy began as a freestanding group, formed by medical students who wanted to help homeless men and women with their psychosocial needs, such as finding a job, obtaining health insurance, and joining a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. Later, we merged with Jeff HOPE to form an organization that can address all of the needs of our patients.
