This research project examines a series of the United Nations' sanctions imposed on South African from 1970 through 1990. The goals of these sanctions were to force South Africa to abandon its apartheid policies. The paper examines diplomatic and economic measures including the oil and arms embargoes. Economic sanctions precipitated economic crisis which forced the South African government to reexamine its apartheid policies, and this marked the beginning of change.
