One of the most effective ways for rural communities to improve the local economy is by exploring opportunities related to tourism. When communities focus their resources on expanding and improving the tourism industry, it leads to additional opportunities for these communities to increase their revenue, provide jobs and revitalize the local economy. Like many other agencies, the Richmond Parks and Recreation Department has gradually expanded the tourism industry within the City of Richmond in Madison County, Kentucky. Kentucky's implementation of the Affordable Care Act has included early successes with insurance coverage expansion through Medicaid and a state-operated health insurance exchange. Signals of improvements in health care accessibility and delivery of preventive services are evident in the first year after coverage expansions. Challenges associated with political opposition, delivery system transformation, and public health financing remain on the state's policy agenda.

The minutes of the Caverna (later Horse Cave), Kentucky Board of Trustees from 1871 to 1892. Full text of the minutes, in 50-page increments, can be seen by clicking on "Additional Files" below. The community was known as Horse Cave, but changed its name to Caverna in 1869 and later changed its name back to Horse Cave in 1880.
