Narcissism development in children has been a widely studied subject; however, little research has examined parental narcissism. There have been two specific studies that have researched narcissism in parents. Within these studies it was found that parental and child bonds are not ideal, which usually results in parents having low senses of well-being and satisfaction with their bond (Hart, 2017; Horton, 2021). For each of our studies, we explored how aspects of an individual’s growth and development are linked with parental narcissism. The Relationship Between Trait Narcissism And Perceptions Of Control, Sean Stephan Sullivan

Current research supports two variants of narcissism: grandiose and vulnerable narcissism. Although each variant shares a common core comprised of an antagonistic personality and an inflated sense of entitlement, the Perceived Control Theory of Narcissism (PCTN) identifies perception of control as the distinguishing factor between the two narcissistic subtypes. This study utilized self-report measures to examine the relationship between trait narcissism, locus of control, exploitativeness, and personal sense of power to test the predictability of the PCTN.
