Mindfulness Meditation On The Effects Of Cognitive Enhancement, Mu'minah Fulani

Fall Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry

This project is analyzing the effects mindfulness meditation has on cognitive enhancement. Participants will be split into two groups one group with be practicing mindfulness meditation once a week for two weeks, while the other group will be practicing a relaxation exercise once a week for two weeks. Before implementing the exercise participants will be assessed using the Trail Making Test. Participants will be assessed once before the exercise then again after the exercise to see if there is a significant difference.

This research project will be conducted in Spring 2022

The premise of this research is to analyze stress management strategies that were implemented across prevalent populations that had a significant impact on either physical or mental health. Ultimately, it is anticipated that this research will inspire Longwood to reduce stress for all the various populations that reside in the town of Farmville.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death among 10-24-year-olds and the target of school-based prevention efforts. Gatekeeper training, a broadly disseminated prevention strategy, has been found to enhance participant knowledge and attitudes about intervening with distressed youth. Although the goal of training is the development of gatekeeper skills to intervene with at-risk youth, the impact on skills and use of training is less known. Brief gatekeeper training programs are largely educational and do not employ active learning strategies such as behavioral rehearsal through role play practice to assist skill development.
