The End Of Ownership: Personal Property In The Digital Economy, Aaron Perzanowski, Jason Schultz Jan 2016

The End Of Ownership: Personal Property In The Digital Economy, Aaron Perzanowski, Jason Schultz

Books

An argument for retaining the notion of personal property in the products we “buy” in the digital marketplace.

The open access edition of this book was made possible by generous funding from Arcadia – a charitable fund of Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin.

If you buy a book at the bookstore, you own it. You can take it home, scribble in the margins, put in on the shelf, lend it to a friend, sell it at a garage sale. But is the same thing true for the ebooks or other digital goods you buy? Retailers and copyright holders argue that …

Tribes, Land, And The Environment, 1d, Sarah Krakoff, Ezra Rosser Apr 2012

Tribes, Land, And The Environment, 1d, Sarah Krakoff, Ezra Rosser

Books

Legal and environmental concerns related to Indian law and tribal lands remain an understudied branch of both indigenous law and environmental law. Native American tribes have a far more complex relationship with the environment than is captured by the stereotype of Indians as environmental stewards. Meaningful tribal sovereignty requires that non-Indians recognize the right of Indians to determine their own relationship to the land and the environment. But tribes do not exist in a vacuum: in fact they are deeply affected by off-reservation activities and, similarly, tribal choices often have effects on nearby communities. This book brings together diverse essays …

Cases, Materials And Problems In Property (Third Edition), Richard H. Chused Jan 2010

Cases, Materials And Problems In Property (Third Edition), Richard H. Chused

Books

This casebook raises interesting and challenging problems concerning the development of property law. Property concepts are introduced through cutting edge issues, such as intellectual property, rights of publicity, and ownership rights in the human body. Historical dimensions are presented through discussions of laws which formerly excluded certain individuals from most forms of ownership and property control, such as Native Americans, African Americans, and women. The text covers traditional topics: estates in land, landlord and tenant laws, transfers of property, private land use controls, and constitutional limitations on public land use controls.

Titles To Real Property Acquired Originally And By Transfer Inter Vivos, Ralph W. Aigler Jan 1916

Titles To Real Property Acquired Originally And By Transfer Inter Vivos, Ralph W. Aigler

Books

Many law teachers have felt that Titles should be the basis of the beginning course in Property. Although this volume appears as number three in a series of casebooks covering the law of Property, it is believed that the subject-matter of the volume, with possibly some shifts in order of the topics, is such that it may well be used in that way.

Cases On The Law Of Mortgages, Edgar N. Durfee Jan 1915

Cases On The Law Of Mortgages, Edgar N. Durfee

Books

“The law of mortgages embraces so many remotely related topics that it is impossible, in the time allotted to it in our schools, to cover the subject completely and thoroughly by the ordinary ‘case’ method. Of the several alternatives that this condition leaves us, the editor has chosen that of covering by cases, with a fair degree of thoroughness, certain selected topics. It is with a view to presenting to the student, in a suggestive way, some of the topics not covered by cases, that the editor has introduced into the book excerpts from text-books and from judicial opinions, and …

Decisions, Statutes, & C., Concerning The Law Of Estates In Land, John R. Rood

Books

“The following pages have been printed from the notes made from time to time while preparing to conduct exercises in the first course on real property at the University of Michigan, using Blackstone’s Commentaries on the text. The design has been to present the great monuments which mark epochs in the various branches on the subject, with only an occasional late example… The present is a temporary edition, made to try out the serviceability of such a book by use in class… The editing has been rather hurriedly done, and the charity of the reader is requested.” --Preface
