Powdery Mildew In Wine Grapes In Western Australia, Diana Fisher, Trevor Wicks Dr May 2003

Powdery Mildew In Wine Grapes In Western Australia, Diana Fisher, Trevor Wicks Dr

Bulletins 4000 -

Powdery mildew is caused by the fungal pathogen Uncinula necator. It is the most persistent fungal problem of grapes in WA and one of the most widespread fungal diseases of grapevines in the world. It is characterised by ash-grey to white powdery growth on green tissue of the vine. If uncontrolled it can cause serious crop losses and impair wine quality.

Three Amino Acid Loop Extension (Tale) Transcription Factors That Regulate Potato (Solanum Tuberosum L) Tuberization , Hao Chen Jan 2003

Three Amino Acid Loop Extension (Tale) Transcription Factors That Regulate Potato (Solanum Tuberosum L) Tuberization , Hao Chen

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Homeodomain (HD) proteins play an important role in cell fate determination and body plan definition by binding to regulatory regions of key target genes. Using the yeast two-hybrid system and a potato KNOX HD protein, POTH1, as bait, seven distinct interacting proteins have been identified from a potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) stolon library. All seven cDNAs belong to the BEL1-like family of transcription factors. Through deletion mutation analysis, we identified a protein-binding domain present in the carboxy-end of the KNOX domain of POTH1. The protein-binding domain in the BEL protein is located in the amino-terminal half of the 120-residue conserved ...

Effectiveness Of Web-Based Pre-Cuing On The Cognitive Achievement And Attitudes Of Fourth And Fifth Grade Pupils Participating In A Field Trip To A Public Garden, Jonathan Charles Pieper Jan 2003

Effectiveness Of Web-Based Pre-Cuing On The Cognitive Achievement And Attitudes Of Fourth And Fifth Grade Pupils Participating In A Field Trip To A Public Garden, Jonathan Charles Pieper

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Creating effective learning experiences with limited educational resources has caused educators to attempt to maximize the value of field trips. A common problem associated with field trips is an anxiety felt by students in new surroundings that can adversely affect their learning. Pre-visit activities prior to a field trip increase attentiveness and learning of students. In some instances, garden staff or teachers inform students about an upcoming field trip by lecturing about the destination or by engaging students in activities relating to the trip. Unfortunately, school budgets and time necessary for such pre-visit activities are not always available. The use ...

Compost Rate Study At The Neely-Kinyon Ltar Site, 2002, Kathleen Delate, Heather Friedrich, Cynthia A. Cambardella, Thomas Richard, Derrick N. Exner, Robert Burcham

Iowa State Research Farm Progress Reports

Many farmers are interested in using manure and compost as sources of nutrients and microbial populations that are necessary for nutrient cycling in agroecosystems. Compost and synthetic fertilizer effects on corn yields and soil fertility have been compared in a Practical Farmers of Iowa cooperative trial at the Neely-Kinyon Farm since 1999.

Edamame (Vegetable Soybean) Variety Trial At Neely-Kinyon Farm, 2002, Kathleen Delate, Heather Friedrich, Robert Burcham, Walter R. Fehr, Lester A. Wilson Jan 2003

Edamame (Vegetable Soybean) Variety Trial At Neely-Kinyon Farm, 2002, Kathleen Delate, Heather Friedrich, Robert Burcham, Walter R. Fehr, Lester A. Wilson

Iowa State Research Farm Progress Reports

Interest in edamame, or vegetable soybeans, has increased in the United States in recent years. Edamame soybeans are harvested immaturely, similar to green beans. Immature soybeans have less of a “beany flavor,” which appeals to American consumers. Edamames are boiled and served either in or out of pods, and are usually eaten as a snack or in soups, salads, or as a vegetable dish. Edamames are usually harvested at 85% pod fill. Pod color and size can be employed as quality indicators, with high quality pods having 2–4 seeds/pod and a pod length of around 2.5 inches ...
