ABSTRACT

Miscanthus is a fast growing bioenergy grass, tolerant of adverse conditions and has high biomass production, and is increasingly attractive as a potential source of cellulosic ethanol. An understanding of genetic variation in naturalized populations of Miscanthus in the US may help in selecting appropriate parents for breeding superior cultivars that are adapted in the wide-ranging and changing environments. The molecular marker analysis of Miscanthus is an important tool towards the genetic improvement program of this bioenergy grass. To the extent of our knowledge, applications of DNA markers in marker-assisted breeding of cotton are handicapped due to low genetic diversity in cotton germplasm. Cotton leaf curl disease, a disease of viral origin, has substantially depressed cotton production in Pakistan, and this disease is also an emerging threat to the neighboring cotton-growing countries like China and India. Transferability Of Barley Retrotransposon Primers To Analyze Genetic Structure In Iranian Hypericum Perforatum L. Populations, Razea Asadkhani Mamaghani, Seyed Abolghasem Mohammadi, Saeid Aharizad

Transferability of barley retrotransposon primers was investigated to analyze population structure in St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum L.) based on inter-retrotransposon amplified polymorphism (IRAP). Seven long terminal repeat (LTR) retrotransposon primers derived from the barley genome were used to detect genetic polymorphism in eight Iranian populations and three cultivars (Helos, New Stem, and Topaz) of H. Perforatum based on IRAP analysis. Nine possible LTR primers/primer combinations successfully amplified fragments from the H. Perforatum genome.
