The Vascular Flora Of The Owens Peak Eastern Watershed, Southern Sierra Nevada, California, Naomi S. Fraga
Aliso: A Journal of Systematic and Floristic Botany
Owens Peak lies at the southern end of the Sierra Nevada within the Bureau of Land Management’s Owens Peak Wilderness Area in Kern County, California. The study site, ca. 50 square miles, encompasses Owens Peak’s eastern watershed, and ranges in elevation from 800–2600 m (2600–8400 ft). Granite rocks of the Sierra Nevada batholith underlie the study area. The eastern watershed of Owens Peak is botanically diverse, with 64 families, 230 genera, and 440 taxa currently documented. Floristic elements within the study area include the southern Sierra Nevada, Great Basin, and Mojave Desert. The flora previously was poorly documented, as discovered …

It is our thesis that members of the Stephen Long Expedition of 1819-20 completed the first biodiversity inventory undertaken in the United States at their winter quarters, Engineer Cantonment, Missouri Territory, in the modern state of Nebraska. This accomplishment has been overlooked both by biologists and historians, but it should rank among the most significant accomplishments of the expedition. The results of this inventory allow us to evaluate the environmental, faunal, and floral changes along the Missouri River in the intervening nearly 190 years. Paris quadrifolia L. (Liliaceae) was collected from Northeast Anatolia (A9 Ardahan). It is reported for the first time from Turkey. Line drawings, diagnostic characters and a distribution map of Paris L. species of Turkey are presented.

This study was carried out between 2001 and 2004 to determine the geophytic flora of Şanlıurfa, located within C6, C7, and C8 of the grid system in Turkey. In all, 789 plant specimens that consisted of 104 taxa belonging to 13 families and 30 genera were gathered from the investigation area. Of all the collected specimens, 19 taxa were new records for C6, C7, and C8, and 11 taxa were endemic to Turkey. Scilla mesopotamica Speta, which was first collected from Şanlıurfa-Halfeti in 1888 by Sintenis and was considered a missing species, was rediscovered after 116 years during this study. …

This study was carried out to determine the flora of the area between Üzümlü and Sakaltutan (Erzincan-Gümüşhane). In this research, conducted between 2001 and 2006, 5210 plant specimens were collected from the research area, and 960 taxa (at specific and intraspecific ranks) belonging to 344 genera and 73 families were reported. The large families are Asteraceae (152 taxa), Brassicaceae (78 taxa), Fabaceae (73 taxa), Caryophyllaceae (64 taxa), and Lamiaceae (62 taxa). The large genera are Astragalus L. (30), Silene L. (27), Allium L. (18), Tanacetum L. (14), Centaurea L. (13), and Alchemilla L. (13). The number of endemic taxa is …

The present study involves the flora of Balıkdamı Wetland and its surroundings in Sivrihisar, Eskişehir, Turkey. This 2-year study (2002-2003) examined the plant samples collected in this region and determined that there are 51 families, as well as 250 taxa belonging to 173 genera (247 species, 1 subspecies, and 2 varieties). All of these taxa belong to the Angiosperms (201 Dicotyledons, 49 Monocotyledons) subdivision. The largest families are Brassicaceae (31), Poaceae (29), and Fabaceae (25) in terms of the number of species and subspecies included. Spiderwort is an herbaceous perennial that arises from a cluster of rather stout overwintering roots. Stems may be solitary or more commonly clumped, and usually grow unbranched, reaching heights up to 40 cm tall. Stems are smooth or bear scattered short hairs. Leaves are 2—5 per stem, attached by means of a leaf sheath that is 13 cm long. Leaf blades are dull green, elongate, ending in a gradually tapered tip, flat or keeled, smooth (without hairs), and 1—3.5 dm long by 0.5—2.5 cm wide. Vascular Flora Of Forest Vegetation In Altındere Valley (Maçka-Trabzon), Alper Uzun, Sali̇h Terzi̇oğlu

The vascular flora of forest vegetation in Altındere Valley (Maçka-Trabzon) was investigated. The study was conducted between 2001 and 2002, during which time 1200 plant samples were collected. In all, 383 vascular taxa belonging to 246 genera and 84 families were identified. The richest family was Asteraceae (35, 9.1%), followed by Lamiaceae (27, 7.0%) and Fabaceae (23, 6.0%). Additionally, the richest genus was Campanula L. (7, 1.82%), followed by Trifolium L. (6, 1.56%) and Acer L. (6, 1.56%). The phytogeographical regions of 209 (54.56%) taxa were determined. This research was carried out from 2004 to 2006 in order to determine the flora of the region between Zeytinbahçe and Akarçay, Birecik district. The research area is situated in Şanlıurfa province and within C7 of the grid system. In the area, 442 taxa belonging to 62 families and 253 genera were determined. Of all the collected specimens, 30 taxa are new records for the C7 square, 16 (3.59%) taxa are endemic for Turkey, 2 taxa belong to Cryptogamae, and 440 taxa belong to Phanerogamae. The present study is concerned with the flora of the Kalabak Basin, an area lying to the south-west of the city of Eskişehir that supplies Eskişehir with drinking water. As a result of our evaluation of the plant specimens collected over 3 years (2001 to 2003), 71 families, as well as 575 taxa belonging to 307 genera, were determined to occur in the study area (569 species, 3 subspecies, and 3 varieties). The vascular flora of the Camili Biosphere Reserve Area (Borçka, Artvin) was studied between 2002 and 2005. In the area under review, 990 taxa belonging to 432 genera and 110 families were identified. Of the 990 taxa, 37 Pteridophytes and 953 Spermatophytes were detected. Spermatophytes also contained 7 Gymnospermae and 946 Angiospermae taxa. The richest 3 families are Compositae with 114 taxa (11.5%), Gramineae with 69 taxa (7.0%), and Leguminosae with 59 taxa (6.0%). The richest genera are Veronica L. and Campanula L.
