Unlike mammals, there is little fundamental information about spermatogenesis in birds. This study was undertaken to clarify the morphology, histochemistry, and lectin affinity of the seminiferous epithelial cells and Leydig cells in pre-pubertal (8- to 15-week old) and adult (40- to 44-week old) domestic turkeys. In adult turkeys, three types of spermatogonia were defined based on their chromatin distribution and nuclear morphology: the dark type A(Ad); the pale type A(Ap); and the type B. Flora Of Rahat Mountain (Burdur, Turkey), Esat Çeti̇n, Serdar Gökhan Şenol, Özcan Seçmen

The investigation area is within the C2 grid-square and located within Burdur province. This research was conducted between 1999 and 2002. Nearly 1000 plant specimens were collected and 413 Spermatophyta taxa belonging to 55 families were identified from these specimens. Among the identified taxa, 3 are from Gymnospermae, and 410 from Angiospermae (51 of the Angiospermae are Monocotyledones and 359 are Dicotyledones members). The number of endemic taxa was 83 and this number constitutes 20.1% of the total flora.

This paper presents a floristic study of Pirreşit Mountain. The research was carried out in 1997 and 1998, and 3500 vascular plant specimens were collected. After the identification of the specimens, the flora was determined as 820 taxa (at specific and infraspecific ranks) belonging to 767 species, 309 genera, and 65 families. The largest families were Asteraceae (125 taxa), Poaceae (89 taxa), and Fabaceae (72 taxa). The largest genera were Astragalus L. (28), Silene L. (23), and Centaurea L. (16). This paper describes a floristic study of Akçadağ. The research was carried out between 2000 and 2002. During the study period, 2650 vascular plant specimens were collected. After the identification of the specimens, the flora was determined to include 891 taxa (at specific and intraspecific ranks) belonging to 738 species, 328 genera, and 70 families. The distribution of Campanula radula Fisch. in Turkey is recorded for the first time. Thirty-five taxa were defined as new records for the B9 square. Fifty genera containing 152 taxa of lichenised and lichenicolous fungi were identified from 15 sampling stations in the Turkish provinces of Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, Kırşehir and Yozgat. Rosellinula frustulosae (Vouaux) R.Sant. is a new record for Turkey.

A new variety from Turkey is described and illustrated: Juniperus oxycedrus L. subsp. oxycedrus var. spilinanus Yalt., Eliçin & Terzioğlu. This variety grows in forest clearings of Pinus brutia Ten. and P. nigra J.F.Arnold subsp. nigra var. caramanica (Loudon) Rehder, and on stony slopes (800-1400 m) in Spildağı National Park, Manisa (B1) in West Anatolia. Its diagnostic morphological characters are discussed.

The lichen diversity of the Maslak Campus of İstanbul Technical University is presented in this study. In total, 23 lichen species belonging to 14 genera were recorded. Strangospora pinicola (A.Massal.) Körb. is a new record for the Turkish lichen flora and 5 species are new records for İstanbul province.

Field studies were carried out to determine the vascular flora of the Gölcük area (Bolu) during 1997-1998. At the end of the evaluation of the identification of the collected specimens and the results of previous studies, 80 families, 277 genera, 461 species and 475 taxa in total were determined. The rates of species belonging to certain phytogegraphical regions are as follows: the Euro-Siberians 30.8% (142 spp.), the Irano-Turanians 1.5% (7 spp.), the Mediterraneans 5.2% (24 spp.), and phytogeographically unknown 58.4% (269 spp.). The number of endemic taxa found in the research area is 16; thus the endemism rate is 3.5%. …

The genus Hydrurus C.Agardh 1824 and a species belonging to this genus, Hydrurus foetidus (Villars) Trevisan 1848, are reported for the first time for Turkish inland waters. The morphological characteristics of this species are described and information about its ecological distribution is given.

Pollen morphology of the Turkish Romulea Maratti taxa (Iridaceae) was examined using light and scanning electron microscopy. The taxa are similar in some aspects, such as pollen size and spinulate-microperforate exine sculpturing. Most taxa are monosulcate; however, in 2 taxa, R. bulbocodium (L.) Seb. & Mauri var. crocea (Boiss & Heldr.) Baker and var. leichtliniana (Heldr. ex Hal.) Bég., growing sporadically in south-western Turkey, the existence of pollen type variability (monosulcate, disulcate, trisulcate, trisynsulcate, tetrasulcate, penta-aperturate (with longer and shorter sulci), and monoporate) from single pollen sacs was recorded for the first time. Specimens of macrofungi were collected from localities on Honaz Mountain (Denizli) in 2005 and 2006, particularly during autumn and spring. Field and laboratory studies revealed a total of 109 taxa belonging to 64 genera, 32 families and 2 classes. Six taxa belong to Ascomycetes and 103 to Basidiomycetes.

A new late flowering, reddish brown Iris L. species from the subgenus Scorpiris Spach, Iris nezahatiae Güner & H.Duman, is described and illustrated from north-east Turkey. Its distinguishing characters, affinities, and ecology are discussed and its threat category is assessed as 'Critically endangered (CR)'.

The morphological and anatomical characteristics of Anchusa leptophylla Roemer & Schultes subsp. leptophylla and A. leptophylla subsp. incana (Ledep) Chamb. (Boraginaceae), which are distributed in the Black Sea region, were investigated. The morphological features of various organs of the plant such as the stem, flower, and fruit are given in detail. Features related to characteristics of the leaf and calyx were found to be important in separating the subtaxa morphologically. The shape of leaves is usually linear-lanceolate in A. leptophylla subsp. incana, while it is linear in subsp. leptophylla. The nomenclature of 51 taxa in 27 genera of Turkish Brassicaceae has been updated to bring the account of the family in line with the current classification and nomenclature. An appendix listing the previous names, current ones, and pertinent bibliographical citations is provided, as well as another listing the taxa with relevant literature published after the second supplement of the Flora of Turkey. Lenzitopsis oxycedri Malençon & Bertault was collected on a living branch of Juniperus foetidissima Willd. from Thermessos national park, Antalya, situated in the southern Mediterranean part of Turkey. This very rare species belongs to a monotypic genus of Thelephoraceae and was previously only known from Morocco, Spain, and Italy. This fungus causes white rot in juniper wood.

This study was conducted to identify the biodiversity of Myxomycetes growing in Derebucak (Konya) and Akseki (Antalya) districts. The specimens have been collected periodically during field trips in 2002 and 2004. While 2 samples were treated with the moist chamber cultures method in the laboratory, 1 taxon was determined naturally. The samples grown were observed using stereo and light microscopes. The 3 new records for the Myxomycetes in Turkey are as follows: Cribraria languescens Rex, Arcyodes incarnata (Alb. & Schwein.) O.F.Cook., and Macbrideola macrospora (Nann.-Bremek.) Ing.

Several macrofungi specimens were collected during field studies in Kayseri province. After field and laboratory studies, 6 species belonging to 6 families were identified as new records for Turkey. These species are Clitocybe catinus (Fr.) Quél., Conocybe appendiculata J.E.Lange & Kühner, Coprinus macrocephalus (Berk.) Berk., Guepinia helvelloides (DC.) Fr., Psathyrella leucotephra (Berk. & Broome) P.D.Orton, and Russula olivaceoviolascens Gillet.
