The Vascular Flora And Community Structure Of Little Calumet Headwaters Nature Preserve, Laporte Country, Indiana, Julia L. Angstmann, Paul E. Rothrock, Thomas W. Post

Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS

Little Calumet Headwaters Nature Preserve is a 108-acre tract of woodland and wetland areas that comprise the headwaters of the Little Calumet River in northwestern Indiana. The preserve, consisting of upland hardwood forests, groundwater seeps, and wetland complex, is an area of high diversity due to its topographical variation. A floristic inventory, plot sampling, and seed bank analysis were used to determine the structure and composition of the plant communities. The flora consists of 298 species (27 exotic) representing 188 genera and 84 families. Dominant vegetation of the forest includes Liriodendron tulipifera, Prunus serotina, Packera aurea and Podophyllum peltatum. …

2006 Wildflower Of The Year: Spicebush, Lindera Benzoin, W. John Hayden

Biology Faculty Publications

Spicebush is a multistemmed deciduous shrub that grows to a height of one to three meters. Young stems are delicate and may be smooth or finely hairy. Leaves are alternate and simple, with an elliptic to obovate blade that tapers at both the base and apex and is bounded by a smooth margin. Examined closely, the margin will reveal a series of fine hairs that project directly out from the leaf edge. In size, leaves are neither remarkably large nor small; they range from one to six inches in length and up to about two and a half inches wide, …

Contribution To The Lichen Flora Of Gürgen Dağı (Çanakkale), Gülşah Çobanoğlu, Orhan Sevgi̇

Turkish Journal of Botany

A list of 75 lichen taxa is reported from Gürgendağı Mountain located to the north of Kazdağı (Ida Mountain), in Çanakkale province. Among the identified taxa, 41 taxa are epiphytic, 26 saxicolous and 8 terricolous. All of the taxa are new records for the area. Nineteen taxa are new for the province.

Turkish Journal of Botany

In this study carried out in the Sündiken Mountains, 83 taxa were identified by the authors. These belong to 21 families and 42 genera of bryophytes. Of these, 64 taxa are new for the B7 grid-square adopted by Henderson.

Flora Of Bozburun Mountain And Its Environs (Antalya-Isparta-Burdur, Turkey), Hüseyi̇n Faki̇r

Turkish Journal of Botany

This paper describes a floristic study of Bozburun Mountain and its environs. The study was conducted between 1998 and 2002, during which time 2419 vascular plant samples were collected. After the identification of the specimens, the total flora was determined to consist of 645 taxa belonging to 341 genera and 86 families. The endemism rate of the 645 taxa was 16.1% (n = 104 taxa). The phytogeographical spectrum of the species was as follows: Mediterranean 207 (32.1%), Irano-Turanian 51 (7.9%) and Euro-Siberian elements 33 (5.1%). Of the species we sampled, 311 (48.2%) were widespread and the phytogeographical regions of 10 …

Teucrium Chasmophyticum Rech. F. (Lamiaceae): A New Record For The Flora Of Turkey, Ali̇ Arslan Dönmez Jan 2006

Teucrium Chasmophyticum Rech. F. (Lamiaceae): A New Record For The Flora Of Turkey, Ali̇ Arslan Dönmez

Turkish Journal of Botany

An interesting chasmophytic Teucrium specimen was collected from Siirt, SE Turkey. It was identified according to the Flora of Turkey as T. paederotoides but with some doubt about certain characters. It was identified as T. chasmophyticum without any doubt from Flora Iranica. Because of some indistinct points between these 2 taxa, the recently described taxon was re-evaluated. The type specimen of the taxon was examined at W herbarium and its revised description is given here. A photograph of the type specimen and the Turkish material taken from the field is supplied along with a map.

Subalpine And Alpine Flora Of Altındere Valley (Maçka, Trabzon), Seyran Palabaş Uzun, Rahi̇m Anşi̇n

Turkish Journal of Botany

The subalpine and alpine flora of Altındere Valley (Maçka, Trabzon) was investigated during 2000-2002. The study area is situated in the Colchis sector of the Euro-Siberian floristic area of the Holarctic region with regard to plant geography. In this area, 384 plant taxa belonging to 61 families and 190 genera were determined. The largest family is Asteraceae (39; 10%), and the second largest is Rosaceae (35; 9%). The rates of the taxa belonging to certain phytogeographical regions are as follows: 50.27% Euro-Siberian, 5.99% Irano-Turanian and 1.04% Mediterranean. Moreover, phytogeographically unknown taxa are 42.70%. Thirty-two endemic (8.3%) and 9 rare (2.3%) …
