Selection For Tillering In Lolium Multiflorum L. In Texas Usa, L. R. Nelson, G. W. Evers, M. J. Parsons

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

Annual ryegrass is an important cool season forage in Texas and across the southern USA with approximately 2 million ha planted annually. Early tillering will enhance the leaf area index and the amount of photosynthesis which will improve seedling vigor and early forage production. The objective of this study was to determine if it was possible to select for early tiller (shoot) production in a diploid and tetraploid annual ryegrass breeding population. We expect early tiller production would be correlated with improved early season forage production with annual ryegrass.

Reconstructing Annual Inflows To The Headwater Catchments Of The Murray River, Australia, Using The Pacific Decadal Oscillation, Hamish A. Mcgowan, Samuel K. Marx, John Denholm, Joshua Soderholm, Balz S. Kamber

Faculty of Science - Papers (Archive)

The Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) is a major forcing of inter-decadal to quasi-centennial variability of the hydroclimatology of the Pacific Basin. Its effects are most pronounced in the extra-tropical regions, while it modulates the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO), the largest forcing of global inter-annual climate variability. PalaeoPDO indices are now available for at least the past 500 years. Here we show that the >500 year PDO index of Shen et al. (2006) is highly correlated with inflows to the headwaters of Australia's longest river system, the Murray-Darling. We then use the PDO to reconstruct annual inflows to the Murray …

We present long-term time-series of strato-mesospheric CO vertical columns measured from stations located in Antarctica, mid-latitudes and the Arctic, covering the period from 19972005. The instrument and the measurement technique allows the separation of tropospheric and strato-mesospheric contributions to the CO column, therefore providing information on the chemistry and dynamics both at low and high altitudes. Data from polar stations show a similar annual variability of strato-mesospheric CO with a strong maximum in late winter and spring. A small enhancement in late summer for some stations, which we call the "summer bulge", can be seen occasionally. Generally, the mid-latitude stations …

Wildlife Conservation and Management

A modelling effort using POP-II software was presented to show the effects of altering the harvest structure of the reduction. The relatively high harvests of the last two years may result in maintaining the current Park population levels. A variety of scenarios increasing the number and proportion of cows harvested show the greater effects cow harvests have on reducing the population relative to bull harvests.

Identifying Environmental Features For Land Management Decisions, Annual Report, United States, National Aeronautics And Space Administration

Land Use

This annual report outlines the major accomplishments of the Center for Remote Sensing and Cartography (CRSC) since the annual report was submitted in October 1982, with reference to the semiannual report of March 1983. The past year has been characterized by important progress in the research of digital processing techniques, completion of projects involving integrated remote sensing and environmental analysis, and interesting developments for new and continuing projects. Our computing strength is stronger than ever; we continue to rely primarily on the University of Utah Research Institute's Prime computer and NASA's Earth Resources Laboratory Applications Software (ELAS). We continue to …
