A Neural Analysis-Synthesis Approach To Learning Procedural Audio Models, Danzel Serrano Dec 2022

A Neural Analysis-Synthesis Approach To Learning Procedural Audio Models, Danzel Serrano

Theses

The effective sound design of environmental sounds is crucial to demonstrating an immersive experience. Classical Procedural Audio (PA) models have been developed to give the sound designer a fast way to synthesize a specific class of environmental sounds in a physically accurate and computationally efficient manner. These models are controllable due to the choice of parameters from analyzing a class of sound. However, the resulting synthesis lacks the fidelity for the preferred immersive experience; thus, the sound designer would rather search through an extensive database for real recordings of a target sound class. This thesis proposes the Procedural audio Variational …

Pyseg: A Python Package For 2d Material Flake Localization, Segmentation, And Thickness Prediction, Diana B. Horangic

Student Research Projects

Thin materials are of interest for their extraordinary physical, mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical properties. Monolayers and bilayers of 2D materials can be manufactured through a variety of exfoliation methods. To determine layer thickness, Raman spectroscopy or other methods like Rayleigh scattering are used. These methods are, however, slow, and they require equipment beyond an optical microscope. A Python package that automates flake identification processes was built, with access solely to RGB data from an optical microscope assumed. My package, pyseg, localizes flakes on a substrate and then makes a rough estimate of their thickness from first principles. It can …

Deep Learning Of Microstructures, Amir Abbas Kazemzadeh Farizhandi

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

The internal structure of materials also called the microstructure plays a critical role in the properties and performance of materials. The chemical element composition is one of the most critical factors in changing the structure of materials. However, the chemical composition alone is not the determining factor, and a change in the production process can also significantly alter the materials' structure. Therefore, many efforts have been made to discover and improve production methods to optimize the functional properties of materials. The most critical challenge in finding materials with enhanced properties is to understand and define the salient features of the …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Recently, there has been a significant growth of interest in applying software engineering techniques for the quality assurance of deep learning (DL) systems. One popular direction is deep learning testing, i.e., given a property of test, defects of DL systems are found either by fuzzing or guided search with the help of certain testing metrics. However, recent studies have revealed that the neuron coverage metrics, commonly used by most existing DL testing approaches, are not necessarily correlated with model quality (e.g., robustness, the most studied model property), and are also not an effective measurement on the confidence of the model …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

We propose SoLoc, a lightweight probabilistic fingerprinting-based technique for energy-free device-free indoor localization. The system harnesses photovoltaic currents harvested by the photovoltaic cells in smart environments for simultaneously powering digital devices and user positioning. The basic principle is that the location of the human interferes with the lighting received by the photovoltaic cells, thus producing a location fingerprint on the generated photocurrents. To ensure resilience to noisy measurements, SoLoc constructs probability distributions as a photovoltaic fingerprint at each location. Then, we employ a probabilistic graphical model for estimating the user location in the continuous space. Results show that SoLoc can …
