Characterization And Implementation Of A Continuos Flow Trace Metal Preconcentration System For Inductively Couples Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry, Robert N. Sibley
Senior Scholar Papers
A continuous flow pre-concentration system for analysis of trace metals in natural waters was characterized and used to determine the copper(II) and lead(II) concentrations in seawater from Penobscot Bay, Maine. Pre-concentrated samples were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). System characterization involved elucidation of the thermodynamic complexation constants, KCu(II) and KPb(II), for Cu(II) and Pb(II) with the pre-concentration column chromatographic material. This was done in aqueous media of known pH and ionic strength. The column contained 8-hydroxyquinoline immobilized on Toyopearl HW-75 fractogel chromatographic resin. The buffer system used for metal binding experiments was an equimolar mixture of …

Colby College Watershed Study: Pattee Pond (2008, 1992)
The purpose of this study was to analyze the water quality of Pattee Pond and to determine the factors that influence it. The study was divided into two major portions: 1) an assessment of land use practices that influence the water quality of the pond, and 2) an assessment of actual water quality of the pond and its tributaries. The investigation of the land use practices in the Pattee Pond watershed focused on determining the extent to which humans influence the water quality of the lake. Water from Pattee Pond and its tributaries was sampled and analyzed in the second …
The Safe Drinking Water And Clean Water Acts: A Small Community View, Steve Levy
The Safe Drinking Water And Clean Water Acts: A Small Community View, Steve Levy
Maine Policy Review
The Safe Drinking Water Act of 1986 and the Clean Water Act Amendments of 1991 present significant financial and technical challenges to municipalities in Maine and other states as they struggle to meet compliance standards. Steve Levy, executive director of the Maine Rural Water Association, offers a view of the effects of these requirements on rural communities.

Maine Policy Review
The Safe Drinking Water Act of 1986 and the Clean Water Act Amendments of 1991 present significant financial and technical challenges to municipalities in Maine and other states as they struggle to meet compliance standards. Chris Branch, public works director and city engineer for Lewiston, presents a large community perspective.
