The Role Of The British Grassland Society In Technology Transfer, J. M. Crichton Aug 2023

The Role Of The British Grassland Society In Technology Transfer, J. M. Crichton

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

Since its formation in 1945, the British Grassland Society (BGS) has been active in disseminating information to the grassland and associated sectors of agriculture and has adapted to a change from production-based agriculture to its current output mix of private and public goods. The BGS has as its remit: (a) improved production and utilisation of grass and forage crops for the promotion of agriculture and the public benefit, and (b) the advancement of education and research in grass and forage crop production and utilisation, and the publication of results.

The Role Of The New Zealand Grassland Association In Technology Interaction And Policy Evolution, M. W. Calder Jul 2023

The Role Of The New Zealand Grassland Association In Technology Interaction And Policy Evolution, M. W. Calder

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

The New Zealand Grassland Association (NZGA) aims for a two-way communication between grassland researchers and pastoral farmers on research findings and farming trends and opportunities. Annual conferences, special symposia, print and electronic publications as well as the web site are used to further these aims. Policy evolution is indirect, using the relationship with agribusiness sponsors and members to promote research objectives.

Workplace Chat Application Using Socket Programming In Python, Egzon Salihu, Gentiana Blakaj Oct 2021

Workplace Chat Application Using Socket Programming In Python, Egzon Salihu, Gentiana Blakaj

UBT International Conference

A chat is a real-time communication with one or more users connected to the internet. Chat applications are very necessary at this time in a workplace to communicate employees with each other for company purposes. In Python programming, this type of communication is possible to do using the library sockets, which enables connecting two nodes on a network to communicate with each other. We represent in this paper how to build a chat application that uses a server to connects multiple users and let them communicate with each other using the TCP protocol. Threads are used for parallel programming to …

Rebuilding A Tropical Forages For The Future Network – A Call For Resuscitating Enthusiasm For A Commodity With Great Prospects And Innovation Potential, B. C. Pengelly, B. L. Maass Oct 2021

Rebuilding A Tropical Forages For The Future Network – A Call For Resuscitating Enthusiasm For A Commodity With Great Prospects And Innovation Potential, B. C. Pengelly, B. L. Maass

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

A series of Forages for the Future newsletters, outlining some of the latest tropical and subtropical forage (TSTF) research and development impacts and expertise, has been published since 2016. Amongst the research highlights were Brazilian scientists’ focus on grasses such as Urochloa, Megathyrsus maximus, Paspalum and Cenchrus purpureus, and on legumes, especially Arachis and Stylosanthes. Argentinian researchers are similarly targeting Acroceras macrum and Setaria sphacelata; while Indian and ILRI (East Africa) researchers are using plant breeding to overcome disease constraints in Napier grass (Cenchrus purpureus and associated hybrids). Also demonstrated were successfully using genetic …

From Research To Practice Change–Achieving Adoption Through Regionally Packaged Technology And Farm Systems, Kate Sargeant, Scott Glyde Apr 2020

From Research To Practice Change–Achieving Adoption Through Regionally Packaged Technology And Farm Systems, Kate Sargeant, Scott Glyde

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

The rate and extent of adoption of grazing systems technology is limited by the relevance of recommendations and the complexity of integrating new practices into farming systems. This paper describes how, through development of regional information packages, a national project is enhancing adoption of the outputs from research investment. Every farm has unique goals, soils, landscape, enterprise setup and existing practices. When making investment decisions, farmers consider the cost and potential impact of each option compared to other competing options, the fit into their existing management philosophy and other changes necessary to realise the potential benefit. Overlaying this, farmers consider …

When Fish Speak English, Heidi Siegelbaum Apr 2018

When Fish Speak English, Heidi Siegelbaum

Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference

“What did you just say?” This is the world where cognitive psychology, neural linguistics, risk communication and prose meet the hard sciences. In the Salish Sea, people are aching for meaning, narratives, tools and pathways to help protect what they love or what lines their wallets... but only if they understand the value of Puget Sound as a biological place, a community, an economy and a braided culture. The pathway from data to knowledge to understanding to action is a circuitous and long path which starts with clear communication and first and foremost, understanding our target audiences. These are the …

Research On System Communication By Using Unified Registry Model & Elements, Kujtim Gashi, Atdhe Buja, Fatos Idrizi

UBT International Conference

Trends of Development of Information Society in the Republic of Kosovo must fit the criteria and standards of the EU. The main objective of the paper is the identification of individual IT systems used by the Republic of Kosovo public institutions related to the trade and working out analysis and recommendations for optimizing their communication (interoperability), eventual unification in the hardware & software level and increase the efficiency of the entire economic system information. The analytical analysis outlined these points, as it follows: current technologies used by public administration of the Republic of Kosovo, risk analysis, analysis of data structures …

Analysis Of Central Banks Platforms On Social Networks, Goran Bjelobaba, Ana Savic, Hana Stefanovic Oct 2017

Analysis Of Central Banks Platforms On Social Networks, Goran Bjelobaba, Ana Savic, Hana Stefanovic

UBT International Conference

The paper describes the advantages of using technical and technological achievements through the social networks and their implementation in Central Banks communication. A study of some Central Banks on their use of social media and some of the most popular social networks are given, showing that social media is becoming an important medium of communication for Central Banks around the world. The study shows that a majority of Central Banks use Twitter to send alerts for information already disseminated through the website, even as they are not very active in responding to public tweets, and also shows an increasing number …

Leadership and communication strategies for leading departments that include both contingent and tenure-eligible faculty through three case studies, dealing with 1) voting rights and other claims upon resources; 2) a lack of career milestones, making contingent faculty feel “stuck”; and 3) ways to value contributions of contingent faculty.

Improving Non-Native English Students’ Communicative Competence And Collaboration Skills Through Virtual Simulations, Alisa Sadiku Oct 2016

Improving Non-Native English Students’ Communicative Competence And Collaboration Skills Through Virtual Simulations, Alisa Sadiku

UBT International Conference

Knowing how to communicate in the target language is the main goal of most language learners. Furthermore, it is very challenging for teachers to bring real world communication experiences in classroom settings where English is not the native language. Hence, in this paper I explore the role of virtual simulations in promoting communicational and collaboration opportunities to non-native speakers of English. In my research, I describe how virtual worlds improve communicative and collaborative skills of non-native speakers of English. Moreover, I investigate how virtual worlds can create a learner centered environment where students take control of their own language production. …

UBT International Conference

The paper describes the concept of a Multimodular Multydisciplinary platform, contacting through unified templates in a Portal with knowledge, with Useful INTERNET resources, in order to provide advanced research and education. Usually the online resources available are mainly in the area of e- and distance education, but still an understanding is missing for the scale and the use of studying and the systematization of the online resource. The new concept has an accent of the useful INTERNET resource and the development of a System of nets to it, in the aim of solving tasks and generating new knowledge in the …
