Spectral Decomposition Of The Scattered Light Due To Deposits On The Solar Panel Surface, And Cross Correlated To Power Loss, Suzanna Ho Dec 2014

Spectral Decomposition Of The Scattered Light Due To Deposits On The Solar Panel Surface, And Cross Correlated To Power Loss, Suzanna Ho

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

The electric energy generated by solar panels declines due to dust particulates, bird deposits, water spots, and other contaminants that inhibit sunlight absorption and promote light scattering. As part of our research, we use cameras to capture images of solar panels, and analyze the images to detect the amount of scattered light. The more scattered light there is, the less light there is to penetrate the solar panel glass and reach the part of the panel that converts incident light to electric energy; therefore, less energy is generated. In this paper, we discuss the classification algorithm we developed to classify …

Study Of Water Transport Phenomena On Cathode Of Pemfcs Using Monte Carlo Simulation, Karn Soontrapa May 2014

Study Of Water Transport Phenomena On Cathode Of Pemfcs Using Monte Carlo Simulation, Karn Soontrapa

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

This dissertation deals with the development of a three-dimensional computational model of water transport phenomena in the cathode catalyst layer (CCL) of PEMFCs. The catalyst layer in the numerical simulation was developed using the optimized sphere packing algorithm. The optimization technique named the adaptive random search technique (ARSET) was employed in this packing algorithm. The ARSET algorithm will generate the initial location of spheres and allow them to move in the random direction with the variable moving distance, randomly selected from the sampling range, based on the Lennard-jones potential of the current and new configuration. The solid fraction values obtained …

Stability Aware Delaunay Refinement, Bishal Acharya Aug 2013

Stability Aware Delaunay Refinement, Bishal Acharya

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Good quality meshes are extensively used for finding approximate solutions for partial differential equations for fluid flow in two dimensional surfaces. We present an overview of existing algorithms for refinement and generation of triangular meshes. We introduce the concept of node stability in the refinement of Delaunay triangulation. We present two algorithms for generating stable refinement of Delaunay triangulation. We also present an experimental investigation of a triangulation refinement algorithm based on the location of the center of gravity and the location of the center of circumcircle. The results show that the center of gravity based refinement is more effective …
