Geomechanical Study Of Rock Properties In The Kafr El-Sheikh Formation At Sapphire Field, West Delta Deep Marine, Egypt, Moustafa Mohamed Ahmed Attia, Ali El-Sayed Farag, Mahmoud Y. Zein El-Din

Al-Azhar Bulletin of Science

Numerous challenges were encountered during the drilling operations conducted at the Sapphire oilfield. Instances of stuck pipe, wellbore instability, breakouts, and washouts have been documented in many wells within this field, resulting in unproductive time and additional expenditures. To mitigate these challenges, it is important to conduct a one-dimensional geomechanical model to get a viable resolution. This entails the creation of three primary in situ stress profiles and the assessment of mechanical characteristics of the geological formations. The primary focus of this investigation was to ascertain the mechanical characteristics of the rock. Therefore, this work offers great input while building …

A Speleogenetic History Of Novoafonskaya Cave In The Western Caucasus, Olga Chervyatsova, Sergey Potapov, Jonathan Baker, Dmitry Gavryushkin, Victor Polyak, Matt Heizler, Sergey Tokarev, Sergey Sadykov, Roman Dbar, Yuri Dublyansky

International Journal of Speleology

Speleogenesis in hypogene karst settings may be closely tied to regional tectonic dynamics and concomitant hydrochemical evolution of karst waters. However, placing temporal constraints on these processes can require a wider array of field observations and techniques than for typical karst systems. Herein, we present a comprehensive study of Novoafonskaya Cave (Western Caucasus, Abkhazia). The updated speleogenetic history of the cave comprises four stages: (1) the most ancient, a low-T hydrothermal (ca. 40–50°C) priming stage; (2) the main stage enabled by mixing of upwelling thermomineral and locally recharged common karst waters; (3) the late sulfuric-acid speleogenesis (SAS) stage, which left …

`The Very Beautiful Principles Of Natural Philosophy': Michael Faraday, Paper Marbling And The Physics Of Natural Forms, Robert Pepperell

LASER Journal

In 1854, Michael Faraday wrote to thank the author who had sent him a book on the art of paper marbling. In the letter, Faraday referred to `the very beautiful principles of natural philosophy' involved in the process of dropping ink on thickened water. What are the `beautiful principles' that Faraday referred to, and how are they involved in the art of paper marbling? Here I consider some of the physical processes that occur in paper marbling and how the patterns that emerge represent `dissipative structures' that are governed by fundamental principles of nature, in particular the tendency for physical …

Are All Weakly Convex And Decomposable Polyhedral Surfaces Infinitesimally Rigid?, Jilly Kevo Jun 2024

Are All Weakly Convex And Decomposable Polyhedral Surfaces Infinitesimally Rigid?, Jilly Kevo

Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal

It is conjectured that all decomposable (that is, interior can be triangulated without adding new vertices) polyhedra with vertices in convex position are infinitesimally rigid and only recently has it been shown that this is indeed true under an additional assumption of codecomposability (that is, the interior of the difference between the convex hull and the polyhedron itself can be triangulated without adding new vertices). One major set of tools for studying infinitesimal rigidity happens to be the (negative) Hessian MT of the discrete Hilbert-Einstein functional. Besides its theoretical importance, it provides the necessary machinery to tackle the problem …

Big Two And N-Card Poker Probabilities, Brian Wu, Chai Wah Wu

Communications on Number Theory and Combinatorial Theory

Between the poker hands of straight, flush, and full house, which hand is more common? In standard 5-card poker, the order from most common to least common is straight, flush, full house. The same order is true for 7-card poker such as Texas hold'em. However, is the same true for n-card poker for larger n? We study the probability of obtaining these various hands for n-card poker for various values of n≥5. In particular, we derive closed expressions for the probabilities of flush, straight and full house and show that the probability of a flush is less than a straight …

Study On Law And Influencing Factors Of Air Leakage In Isolated Island Working Face With Large Burial Depth, Gang Wang, Mingze Xia, Shuliang Xie, Hao Xu, Shuxin Wang, Xintai Deng

Journal of Sustainable Mining

During the mining of a single coal seam isolated island work surface with large burial depth, the high mine pressures can crush and break the protective coal pillars, causing serious air leakages in the rear goaf. Herein, we use the analytic hierarchy process(AHP) to determine the main influencing factors of air leakage in island mining face. The air leakage source and sink in goaf were determined by measuring the differential pressures between the island mining face and the adjacent goaf using the energy level measurement method. The air volumes in the roadways were monitored on site to quantitatively analyze the …

This study seeks to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest progress in the antioxidant properties of nanoparticles. Nanoparticles (NPs) have emerged as a promising tool in several domains of science and industry, including their application as antioxidant agents. The main knowledge gaps seem to be in correctly identifying the make-up of the naturally occurring phytochemicals that give these nano-antioxidants their extraordinary pharmacology and drug-like properties. In many instances, that characterization is done using spectroscopy instrumentation such as fourier-transform Infrared (FT-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). From literature appraisals, it was discovered that a lot of …

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The application of mathematical biology and dynamical systems has proven to be an effective approach for studying viral infection models. To contribute to this research, our paper proposes a new CHIKV model that takes into account an adaptive immune response and distributed time delays, which accurately reflects the time lag between initial viral contacts and the production of new active CHIKV particles. By analyzing the model’s qualitative behavior, we establish a biological threshold number that can predict whether CHIKV will be cleared from or persist in the body. We demonstrate the global stability of both CHIKV-present and CHIKV-free steady states …

Hyperbolic linear theory of heat propagation has been established in the framework of a Caputo time fractional order derivative. The solution of a system of integer and fractional order initial value problems is achieved by employing the Adomian decomposition approach. The obtained solution is in convergent infinite series form, demonstrating the method’s strengths in solving fractional differential equations. Moreover, the double Laplace transform method is employed to acquire the solution of a system of integer and fractional order boundary conditions in the Laplace domain. An inversion of double Laplace transforms has been achieved numerically by employing the Xiao algorithm in …
