Numerical Studies And Optimization Of Magnetron With Diffraction Output (Mdo) Using Particle-In-Cell Simulations, Alireza Majzoobi

The first magnetron as a vacuum-tube device, capable of generating microwaves, was invented in 1913. This thesis research focuses on numerical simulation-based analysis of magnetron performance. The particle-in-cell (PIC) based MAGIC software tool has been utilized to study the A6 and the Rising-Sun magnetron structures, and to obtain the optimized geometry for optimizing the device performance. The A6 magnetron is the more traditional structure and has been studied more often. The Rising-Sun geometry, consists of two alternating groups of short and long vanes in angular orientation, and was created to achieve mode stability.

Object handoff in free space requires a sound framework between at least two optical sensors and one object. Previous work developed an algorithm that can determine the ap­ propriate time to initiate handoff of object tracking responsibilities from one optical sensor with an object in view to another optical sensor with the same object in view. In order to maintain persistent tracking of objects in this work, gimbal movements of optical sensors are determined by calculations using the Lagrange method to determine the trackability measures between the moving object and the handoff cone for the appropriate optical sensor. Laser-induced plasma multi-charged ion (MCI) sources have gained in popularity over the last thirty years with the advent of reliable, high peak power, short temporal pulse laser systems. Utilization of laser-induced plasma MCI sources allows for production of a wide array of ion species from a variety of source target materials. In this thesis an investigation of the generation of MCis from an aluminum (Al) target source through laser-induced plasma from a femtosecond (fs) pulsed laser system is outlined and the results presented and analyzed.
