Descriptive Statistical Analysis Of Experimental Data For Wettability Alteration With Surfactants In Carbonate Reservoirs, Ya Yao, Mingzhen Wei, Baojun Bai Feb 2022

Descriptive Statistical Analysis Of Experimental Data For Wettability Alteration With Surfactants In Carbonate Reservoirs, Ya Yao, Mingzhen Wei, Baojun Bai

Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Surfactants have been the widely used agents to alter the wettability of carbonate rocks to more water-wet and enhanced oil recovery (EOR). As one of major EOR methods, an effective surfactant huff-puff application design requires comprehensive guidelines about where, how, and when this method could be applied. In order to construct such guidelines, a dataset including 338 effective surfactant imbibition tests is established by collecting information from nearly 50 publications. Based on this dataset, descriptive statistical analysis methods are used to conduct data analysis, including three main parts. The first part establishes the application guidelines for surfactant huff-puff treatments which …

A Data Analysis Of Immiscible Carbon Dioxide Injection Applications For Enhanced Oil Recovery Based On An Updated Database, Sherif Fakher, Abdulmohsin Imqam Mar 2020

A Data Analysis Of Immiscible Carbon Dioxide Injection Applications For Enhanced Oil Recovery Based On An Updated Database, Sherif Fakher, Abdulmohsin Imqam

Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Carbon dioxide (CO2) injection is an enhanced oil recovery technique used worldwide to increase oil recovery from hydrocarbon reservoirs. Immiscible CO2 injection involves injecting the CO2 into the reservoir at a pressure below which it will become miscible in the oil. Even though immiscible CO2 injection has been applied extensively, very little research has been conducted to provide a comprehensive understanding of the mechanism and the applications of immiscible CO2 injection. This research performs an in-depth data analysis is performed based on more than 200 experiments and 20 field tests from more than 40 …

Review And Data Analysis Of Low Salinity Water Effect Through Induced Fine Migration, Dawei Xu Jan 2019

Review And Data Analysis Of Low Salinity Water Effect Through Induced Fine Migration, Dawei Xu

Masters Theses

"Low salinity water flooding (LSWF) is well proved to be an effective EOR technology both in laboratory and field tests, however, the conditions for LSWF to work and EOR mechanism is still debatable. Up till now, many mechanisms have been proposed to explain the incremental oil recovery in sandstone by LSWF, for instance, fine migration, ionic exchange, wettability alteration and pH increase.

In this study, we only focus on low salinity water flooding effect through induced fine migration mechanism. The objective of this study is to conduct a comprehensive analysis using statistical analysis methods and explaining the mechanism of fine …

Data Analysis Of Surfactant-Induced Wettability Alteration In Carbonate Reservoirs, Hao Sun Jan 2016

Data Analysis Of Surfactant-Induced Wettability Alteration In Carbonate Reservoirs, Hao Sun

Masters Theses

"Most carbonate formations prove to be oil-wet due to oil aging effect. Therefore it is essential to employ wettability alteration methods for a more effective enhanced oil recovery process. It is confirmed by researchers that surfactant treatment has positive effects on wettability alteration of carbonate rock, from strong oil-wet to intermediate wet or to even weak water-wet. A number of experiments have the same conclusion and yet, a systematic screening guide development with the support of sufficient data analysis is lacking.

This study involves screening guide development for surfactant-induced wettability alteration method. 199 experiments collected from published literatures are analyzed …

Numerical And Field Data Analysis Of Drill Stem Vibration, Mohammed Fayez Al Dushaishi Jan 2015

Numerical And Field Data Analysis Of Drill Stem Vibration, Mohammed Fayez Al Dushaishi

Doctoral Dissertations

"Drill stem vibration is a major cause of premature failure of drill stem components and drilling inefficiency. In severe cases, drill stem vibration may lead to wellbore instability that could lead to increased operational cost. Drill stem vibrations are affected by design decisions and the drilling environment. Examples are; bottom hole assembly configurations, selection of operational parameters, and frequent changes in lithology. Vibration modeling, analysis of vibration data, and specialized vibration reduction tools are methods in use to prevent and mitigate severe vibrations.

A drill stem vibration model was created using nonlinear strain formulation which couples the axial, lateral and …
