Policy Analysis: Appropriate Opioid Prescribing Practices For Post-Surgical Patients, Joan S. Daversa
Policy Analysis: Appropriate Opioid Prescribing Practices For Post-Surgical Patients, Joan S. Daversa
Doctors of Nursing Practice (DNP) Final Projects, 2020-current
The pervasiveness of legally prescribed opioids in the United States has led to increased post-surgical patients succumbing to opioid dependence. There is a vast disparity in pain management practices across clinical settings. The lack of well-defined policies specifying opioid prescribing practices for post-surgical patients has created inconsistency among providers. This situation creates a risk for misuse and long-term opioid dependence for patients. This policy analysis aims to implement an evidence-based opioid prescribing policy for post-surgical patients to improve current opioid prescribing practices and implement a best practice culture to reduce excessive opioid practices. Collins (2005) health policy analysis adapted from …
Improving Nursing Adherence To Pediatric Pain Management Bundle Using The Pdsa Cycle, Stephen W. Lovern
Improving Nursing Adherence To Pediatric Pain Management Bundle Using The Pdsa Cycle, Stephen W. Lovern
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Final Clinical Projects, 2016-2019
Given the current standards, pediatric post-operative pain management can be a distressing outcome to the patient and family. Adequate management of post-op pain in this population is a challenge despite the availability of evidence-based interventions combined to form care bundles. Tonsillectomies are common procedures in the pediatric population and often include moderate to severe pain with ineffective pain relief. Inadequate pain management leads to unplanned admissions, longer post anesthesia care unit (PACU) stays, slower oral intake, and longer recovery periods. In this project, two interventions were tested using the plan-do-study-act (PDSA) model for rapid cycle improvements. The first intervention was …
Postoperative Pain Management, Taylor H. Schuler
Postoperative Pain Management, Taylor H. Schuler
Senior Honors Projects, 2010-2019
This literature review examined two pharmacological forms of postoperative pain
management and one nonpharmacological intervention to help reduce pain (See
Appendix A). Sources were gathered from the nursing research databases of
Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) and PubMed.
Articles and studies between 2004 and 2015 were analyzed to write the review. The
focus was to look at postoperative patients and determine if epidural or patient
controlled analgesia (PCA) provided the same satisfaction for individuals who
underwent surgery. In addition, music therapy was researched to explore the effects
of listening to a pleasurable sound and how it …
