As a Filipina American from Southern California, my cousins got to experience our Philippine culture through their college’s Filipino American Student Associations, while I had a hard time learning about our culture as I attend a school that has a low Asian American population and miniscule Filipino American population. My Bucknell Honors Thesis submission for the Film and Media Studies department consists of two different parts. The first part is a 5-minute short film, titled “the bachelor machine” that I created through a year-long process of pre-production (idea generation), production (the film shoot itself), and post-production (editing, sound design, color grading). A través de una investigación de películas españolas, una obra de teatro y el activismo de salud pública, esta tesis disecciona la historia de la maternidad en España. Se enfoca en madres no tradicionales, que difieren de los ideales patriarcales y heteronormativos de lo que debe ser una madre débil, cómplice y en un nivel inferior a sus contrapartes masculinas.
