Blockchain and Ethereum (ETH) technology stands poised to revolutionize the digital world, offering unprecedented decentralization, transparency, and immutability of data across various industries; however, new technologies raise new security concerns. By overcoming key vulnerabilities in ETH, it allows a multitude of groundbreaking technologies such as Web3, Decentralized Finance (DeFi), Decentralized Apps (dApps), Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), and cryptocurrency wallets to become commonplace. This revolutionary crypto-dependent future of the internet relies on finding solutions to security vulnerabilities. We aim to pinpoint key security flaws and develop robust smart contract solutions within the Ethereum blockchain to enable the widespread adoption of Blockchain technology.

A very recent development in the realm of computer technology is the deepfake. Deepfakes, which train a computer model to digitally superimpose one person’s face onto another body in a separate video, has its uses for good and for ill, with the unfortunate tendency to the latter. The vast majority of deepfakes are used for pornography, most commonly depicting the subjects of female celebrities. At the less notable level, it is often used for revenge pornography. This project involves the design, construction and testing of a personal reminder device for elderly who suffer from Alzheimer’s using a clock system and LED wearable technology. The device consists of an RGB LED strip connected to a 7-segment display (which operates as a clock circuit) attached to a microcontroller board. The device uses visual output to alert the user at that certain time the color being emitted represents the reminder the user set for that time. The project involves two phases. The development goal of Project Janus is to design, fabricate, and program two robotic heads that can serve as animatronic chatbots. Each robotic head will be equipped with two USB webcams, a mono speaker within the robot’s mouth, and a pair of microphones. Additionally, each robotic head will feature a three degree of freedom neck, a one degree-of-freedom jaw, and a two degree-of-freedom gimbal for the eyes upon which the cameras will be mounted. The Urban Oasis is designed to work within existing “pocket parks” in New York City as a combined rainwater collector, personal electronics charging station and resting designation for New Yorkers. Intended to not only lessen the demand on the city power grid by using renewable energy to charge devices, the urban oasis is also intended to mitigate grey water overfill in New York’s combined sewer system and, in general, serve as a model for responsible environmental stewardship in urban areas.

Information Technology Services and the University Library partnered to build an Internet2-enabled Learning Commons (LC) at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. The project team now extends the campus partnership model to include student and faculty users in collaboratively applying Scandinavian style co-design methodologies for physical and virtual learning and teaching environments. The interactive design approach was tested from January to June 2005 with funding from a U.S. Office of Naval Research Internet2 MiniGrant subcontract award.
