Ppe Compliance And Knowledge Among Healthcare Staff, Beatrice Hagert, Nicole Krummel

Nursing DNP Projects

Abstract

Problem: One of the most important steps in infection prevention is the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect patients and staff from infectious agents; yet, research indicates that PPE compliance remains suboptimal in many healthcare institutions.

Purpose: To identify the effect of a multidisciplinary education campaign on PPE compliance and knowledge among healthcare workers (HCWs) on a rehabilitation unit of a large, midwestern teaching hospital.

Methods: This project utilized pre-intervention observational audits and a survey to determine baseline PPE compliance and knowledge on the piloted units. A post-intervention survey was sent to HCW to assess for a …

Development And Preliminary Psychometric Testing Of The Drake Atrial Electrogram Assessment Survey: Daegas©, Jeanette Drake

Dissertations & Theses (Open Access)

Background: Critical care nurses (CCNs) who care for postoperative cardiac surgery patients need specialty knowledge, for example, knowledge of atrial electrograms (AEGs). An inadequate audit trail exists for psychometric performance of instruments to measure CCN knowledge of AEGs. A 29-item survey previously pilot tested with a convenience sample of CCNs in the Pacific Northwest had a Kuder-Richardson-20 estimate of internal consistency of .75. The survey was revised to 20 items (14 knowledge and 6 AEG interpretation) and named the Drake Atrial Electrogram Assessment Survey (DAEGAS).

Objectives: The study objectives were to assess evidence for content validity (content validity …

Evaluation Of A Blood Pressure Education Program On Knowledge And Self-Efficacy In Patient Care Associates ., Casey Prestigiacomo

Doctor of Nursing Practice Papers

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) revealed common errors made by healthcare professionals when measuring blood pressure (BP) in adult inpatients. These errors include using incorrectly sized cuffs, improper cuff placement, and inappropriate patient positioning. Inconsistent cuff sizes and position lead to underestimated and overestimated results, directly impacting patient care and outcomes. Additionally, the ACC/AHA identified patient position and talking during assessments as factors that directly impact the accuracy of the results. At Norton Healthcare facilities, a majority of BPs are obtained by patient care associates (PCAs). The purpose of this quality improvement project was …

Educational Session To Improve The Knowledge And Confidence Of State Agency Surveyors In Deficiency Citation Of Immediate Jeopardy Findings In Nursing Homes, Aileen Renolayan, Msn, Ma, Rn, Phn

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Background: The oversight of nursing homes is a shared federal-state responsibility. Under the agreement with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS, 2018), state survey agencies assess nursing homes using standard surveys. Several studies indicate that the type of deficiencies issued to nursing facilities varies significantly by state, suggesting inconsistency in the survey process for issuing deficiencies. For example, variation in Immediate Jeopardy (IJ) citations among state agency surveyors has been the subject of reports from the Government Accountability Office (GAO, 2019) and the Office of the Inspector General (OIG, 2014).

Objective: To determine if a 1-hour educational session about …

Evaluation Of The Impact Of An Educational Intervention Focused On Adolescent Vaping Among Rural Middle School Students, Holly F. Fitzwater

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), sixty deaths due to the use of electronic cigarettes or other vaping products have been reported to date. Vaping has become viewed as a safe alternative to traditional cigarette smoking, particularly in the adolescent population. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends education by primary care clinicians to prevent initiation of tobacco products among adolescents. In order to combat this health disparity in America’s youth, intervention by the nursing profession is necessary. An educational session and interactive game were implemented by a school-based family nurse practitioner in order to change the …

Examining Icu Nurses' Knowledge Of Ventilator-Associated Events And Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia, Dorothy J. Sanders-Thompson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Ventilator-associated events (VAEs) are patients' complications of respiratory conditions including ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). Research shows that VAP is the most common hospital-acquired infection among ventilated patients and a leading source of mortality. With greater risk for complications among ventilated- supported patients, nurses working in the ICU must keep abreast of new knowledge and update expertise to develop technical and clinical skills in daily practice. The purpose of this project was to assess whether an educational intervention would increase the ICU nurses' level of knowledge of the evidence-based intervention. Knowles' adult learning theory was chosen for this project. A paired-samples t-test …

Nurse Perception Of Pain And Innovative Approaches To Pain Management, Tracey-Ann Nichole Knight

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractInsufficient assessment and management of pain among the patient population during their hospital stay may result in ineffective delivery of care, increased length of stay, poor clinical outcomes, and decreased patient satisfaction. The quality report at a local facility showed compliance scores of 78% for administration of pain medication and 79% for reassessment of pain. These scores and the weekly patients’ satisfaction survey results suggested a substandard adherence to the facility’s pain management guidelines. One identified barrier to properly managing patients’ pain was nurses’ lack of knowledge and understanding of the theoretical foundation of pain management. The purpose of this …
