The repair of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) is crucial for maintaining genome stability. DSB repair needs to take place within the complex organization of the chromatin, and this requires changes in the chromatin structure adjacent to DSB sites. These changes occur through covalent histone modifications that alter histone-DNA contacts as well as by the action of ATP-dependent chromatin remodelers. Many chromatin remodelers, including Fun30, are involved in DSB repair. Fun30 facilitates DNA end resection at DSB site during the homologous recombination repair pathway. Carnosol, a naturally occurring Phyto polyphenol found in sage, oregano, and rosemary, has been extensively studied by our laboratory for its anticancer effects in various types of cancer. In human Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), carnosol was shown to inhibit cellular viability, colony growth, induced cell cycle arrest, autophagy, and apoptosis. Nonetheless, very little is known about the molecular mechanism of action. In the current study, the ability of carnosol to inhibit metastasis and tumour growth was examined. Familial hypercholesterolemia is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) carrying cholesterol in the blood. FH is mainly caused by mutations in the gene encoding the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) which causes altered lipid metabolism. LDLR is synthesized and initially modified by glycosylation in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and transferred to the plasma membrane by Golgi to carry out LDL clearance from the bloodstream. Unsolved riddle of cancer remains a major global health concern particularly in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) which is among the leading causes of cancer related death worldwide. Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) and its bioactive phytochemicals possess promising anti-cancer activities. One of these phytochemicals, safranal, has demonstrated potent anti-cancer activities against different types of cancers. Yet, its association with liver cancer remains under documented. This study investigated HCC response to safranal’s treatment via transcriptomic approach. Plants have been shown to be an excellent source of new drugs, including anticancer agents. Origanum majorana commonly known as marjoram is a plant that is known to possess different therapeutic values including antioxidant andantimicrobial activities.

Our research team has previously tested the ethanolic extract of O. majorana on triple negative breast cancer and published the findings. The ethanolic extract promoted mitotic arrest at G2/M phase, induced apoptosis as well as inhibition of migration and metastasis. The promising potential of the ethanolic extract encouraged us to test the effects of O. majorana essential oil on human colon cancer cell lines. …

To maintain cellular homeostasis, the epithelial lining of the stomach wall continuously fluctuates between cellular proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. A key player in this process is the gastric stem cell (GSC). GSCs are located in the isthmus region of the corpus gastric gland and have the potential to proliferate and differentiate. Although several pathways have been identified to regulate stem cell role in several body tissues, little is known about controlling GSC homeostasis.
