Al-Azhar Journal of Dentistry

Purpose: This work aimed to assess the effect of melatonin in comparison to bisphosphonates on induced osteoporotic alveolar bone of albino rats. Material and Methods: Twenty-eight female albino rats were used in this study divided into 4 equivalent groups (8 rats each) as follows: group I: normal control group, group II: glucocorticoid-induced osteoporotic group (GIO) (Dexamethasone 7mg/kg/week intramuscularly), group III: Alendronate group; rats received glucocorticoids in addition to alendronate (2mg/kg daily orally). Group IV: Melatonin received (7mg/kg/week IM) and Melatonin (5mg/kg/day subcutaneously). After 8 weeks, animals were sacrificed then blood was withdrawn for biochemical analysis, then the mandibular bone was …

Dental implants have been used for missing teeth replacement with a high success rate. Melatonin is an antioxidant and acts as a free radical scavenger. It retards the resorption of bone by regulating RANKL and OPG synthesis, and increases the BIC (Bone to implant contact) and also bone perimeter and bone mineralization. Objective: The aim of the study was to assess if topical melatonin application at the osteotomy site has any influence on the stability and marginal bone level around the implant Methods: In this split mouth double blind randomized control trial 30 implants were placed on either …

Evaluation Of Locally Delivered 1.2% Atorvastatin Gel Versus 2% Melatonin Gel As Adjunctive To Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy On Gcf Osteocalcin Level In Stage Ii Periodontitis Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Sarah Gamal Moussa Nov 2021

Evaluation Of Locally Delivered 1.2% Atorvastatin Gel Versus 2% Melatonin Gel As Adjunctive To Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy On Gcf Osteocalcin Level In Stage Ii Periodontitis Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Sarah Gamal Moussa

Future Dental Journal

Abstract:

Objective: Atorvastatin (ATV) and melatonin have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and were suggested to have positive effects when used in periodontitis cases. In periodontitis, osteocalcin (OC) was suggested to be a bone formation marker. Regarding bone turnover in periodontium, gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) osteocalcin levels are more accurate than salivary or serum levels.

Aim: The aim of the present study was to assess the effectiveness of local delivery of ATV gel and melatonin gel as adjuncts to scaling and root planing (SRP) in the treatment of stage II periodontitis patients.

Subjects and method: Thirty-six patients having stage II periodontitis …

Objectives. Periodontitis is characterized by inflammatory destruction of periodontal tissue, loss of attachment, and bone resorption. +e increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) is responsible for the oxidative damage occurring in periodontal tissues. Melatonin has important immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and powerful antioxidant functions. +e current study was carried out to evaluate the effect of topical melatonin gel as an adjunct to nonsurgical periodontal therapy. Methods. +is splitmouth randomized controlled clinical trial was performed on 24 patients with grade II periodontitis. Two sites in each patient were randomly assigned; test sites were treated by nonsurgical therapy followed by intrapocket application of 5% …

Objective: Extracellular vesicles derived from oral cancer cells, which include Exosomes and Oncosomes, are membranous vesicles secreted into the surrounding extracellular environment. These extracellular vesicles can regulate and modulate oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) progression through the horizontal transfer of bioactive molecules including proteins, lipids and microRNA (miRNA). The primary objective of this study was to examine the potential to isolate and evaluate extracellular vesicles (including exosomes) from various oral cancer cell lines and to explore potential differences in miRNA content. Methods: The OSCC cell lines SCC9, SCC25 and CAL27 were cultured in DMEM containing 10% exosome-free fetal bovine serum. …
