Adaptations Made To Evidence-Based Public Health Programs In Low- To Middle- Income Countries: A Concept Mapping Analysis, Elizabeth Holguin

Nursing ETDs

One of the most challenging barriers to implementing successful and sustainable evidence-based programs in public health is the ability to remain faithful to original protocols grounded in scientific evidence while adapting programmatic components to reflect the reality of the communities they are meant to benefit. It is generally accepted that some degree of adaptation should occur in order to achieve positive, sustainable outcomes in public health programs. A concept mapping methodology was used to explore types of adaptation that occur during implementation of evidence-based global health programs in low- to middle-income countries (LMICs). Purposive and snowball sampling produced a sample …

Chronic Migraines And Couples: A Grounded Theory Of Adaptation To Chronic Migraines For Patients And Their Partners, Douglas P. Mcphee

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This study was completed to better understand and treat couples wherein one partner suffers from chronic migraines. I interviewed eight couples about their experiences in dealing with migraines as a patient, as a partner, and together. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed by a team of seven researchers. We developed a theory that can be used to understand how patients and their partners adapt to chronic migraines. The theory was grounded in the experiences of the patients and partners who were interviewed. We found that patients and partners alike dealt with burdens and costs associated with chronic migraines. Coping, healthcare, …

Articulatory Kinematic Differences During Adaptation To A Bite Block, Madison Ann Mchaley Jun 2018

Articulatory Kinematic Differences During Adaptation To A Bite Block, Madison Ann Mchaley

The current study examined the effects of bite blocks on articulatory kinematics when producing /r/ within a phrase. Participants consisted of 20 young adults (10 males, 10 females) with no speech, language or hearing disorders. Participants produced the carrier phrase, I say __ with the nonsense words /əri/ (high front vowel), /əræ/ (low front vowel), /əru/ (high back vowel), /ərɑ/ (low back vowel). A Northern Digital Instruments Wave electromagnetic articulograph measured the articulatory movements while the speaker produced the stimuli in two conditions (Pre bite block and post bite block). Bilateral bite blocks were made using Express dental putty, which …

Understanding The Factors Influencing The Perception Of Organizational Sustainability Among Healthcare Professionals (Hcps) Post The Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act, Funso A. Olufade May 2018

Understanding The Factors Influencing The Perception Of Organizational Sustainability Among Healthcare Professionals (Hcps) Post The Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act, Funso A. Olufade

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Background and Purpose of the Study: Healthcare costs in the United States has continued to increase annually, and new policy's attempt at protocol changes in healthcare practices does not ensure quality care delivery. An example of these policies include provisions and new guidelines under the 2010 healthcare legislation, - The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). The premise with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is increased healthcare access for patients. However, not responsibly balancing the increased demand with the escalating cost of care creates an unsustainable system (Department of Health & Human Services, 2015). Healthcare organizations, including hospitals …

The Effect Of My Health Companion© On Self-Management And Quality Of Life In Persons With End Stage Renal Disease: A Multiple Case Study Approach, Julie D. Leming Apr 2018

The Effect Of My Health Companion© On Self-Management And Quality Of Life In Persons With End Stage Renal Disease: A Multiple Case Study Approach, Julie D. Leming

Nursing Theses and Dissertations

End stage renal disease (ESRD) is the fifth and final stage of chronic kidney disease. Persons with ESRD face significant challenges to quality of life when undergoing renal replacement therapy with hemodialysis. Complex medical regimens accompanied by severe physical discomforts related to both ESRD and dialysis can take a serious emotional toll. Two manuscripts presented in this dissertation portfolio explore the issues facing this population. First, a comparative concept analysis explores three potential psychosocial responses for which nurses are uniquely positioned to intervene. A second manuscript details a multiple-case study with embedded units of analysis that aimed to test the …

The Effect Of Ostomate-To-Ostomate Support On Psychosocial Adaptation To Stoma, Marjorie C. Summers Jan 2018

The Effect Of Ostomate-To-Ostomate Support On Psychosocial Adaptation To Stoma, Marjorie C. Summers

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Approximately one million people in North America are living with an ostomy, and an additional 100,000 will undergo ostomy surgery annually. Fecal diversion ostomates, when compared to the general population, are more likely to experience psychological disturbance and higher levels of depression. These ostomates have reported increased loneliness, lowered self-esteem, decreased or absent libido, irritability, suicidal ideation, poor self-image, and symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder and social phobia. West Virginia has the 8th highest rate of adolescent pregnancy in the United States and the rate in Wayne County is significantly higher.
