Strained Differentiation: Negotiating Grief With Maternal Foundations In Laird Hunt’S Neverhome, Heidie L. Raine Nov 2021

Strained Differentiation: Negotiating Grief With Maternal Foundations In Laird Hunt’S Neverhome, Heidie L. Raine

Channels: Where Disciplines Meet

The intertwinement of mother-daughter psyches throughout the early developmental process bonds maternal and filial parties up unto differentiation, at which point the child comes to understand her status as an individual and her mother’s status as a separate entity. However, when trauma is introduced midway through the differentiation process, this psychological phenomenon may be hindered, stunting the advanced personal development of the daughter. Abandoned by loss, she may subconsciously fall victim to repressive defenses, insufficient socialization, and destructive behaviors.

In his 2016 novel Neverhome, Laird Hunt explores these psychological factors through a traumatized and unreliable female protagonist situated in …

Expression Profile Analysis Of Micrornas During The Oestrous Cycle Of Qira Black Sheep, Xi Chen, Hanying Chen, Song Jiang, Chaocheng Li, Xiancun Zeng Sep 2021

Expression Profile Analysis Of Micrornas During The Oestrous Cycle Of Qira Black Sheep, Xi Chen, Hanying Chen, Song Jiang, Chaocheng Li, Xiancun Zeng

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Ovarian follicular development is closely regulated by a multitude of genes and specific non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), which are typically altered during the oestrous cycle. Identification of the microRNAs (miRNA) expression profiles in sheep ovaries during the oestrous cycle is a prerequisite to further understanding their functional status. This study presents a genome-wide analysis of miRNAs from three groups of Qira black sheep: oestrus (day 0), dioestrus (day 10) and pro-oestrus (day 14). A total of 545 conserved miRNAs and 206 novel miRNAs were identified. Furthermore, 229 differentially expressed miRNAs were screened in three comparisons and 16 miRNAs were found to …

The Development And Implementation Of A Culturally Safe Survey For Measuring Knowledge, Attitudes And Values Around Fasd And Alcohol Use During Pregnancy In A Remote Australian Aboriginal Community Setting, Martyn Symons, David Tucker, Kaashifah Bruce, Annalee Stearne, Annette Kogolo, Maureen Carter, June Oscar, Glenn Pearson, James P. Fitzpatrick

Australian Indigenous HealthBulletin

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) describes a lifelong neurodevelopmental disability caused by prenatal alcohol exposure that has a devastating impact on individuals, families and communities. The prevalence of FASD is high in some Indigenous communities around the World and the only active case ascertainment prevalence study conducted in Australia found a rate of 19.44 per 100 children in the remote Fitzroy Valley region of Western Australia. Following this study community led FASD prevention activities were implemented under the Marulu (“Worth Nurturing”) Strategy in the Fitzroy Valley.

A Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices survey was designed to assess the impact of the …

Observing And Promoting Normative Developmental Outcomes: Reciprocity Is Key, Nicki L. Aubuchon-Endsley, Bryan M. Gee, Heather L. Ramsdell, Nancy Devine, Hillary E. Swann-Thomsen, Nicholas Burgett, Leah R. Kollmeyer, Michele R. Brumley Jul 2021

Observing And Promoting Normative Developmental Outcomes: Reciprocity Is Key, Nicki L. Aubuchon-Endsley, Bryan M. Gee, Heather L. Ramsdell, Nancy Devine, Hillary E. Swann-Thomsen, Nicholas Burgett, Leah R. Kollmeyer, Michele R. Brumley

The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy

Background: Occupational therapists focus on caregiver-infant reciprocity, which is influenced by a host of biopsychosocial factors and is predictive of developmental outcomes across domains. It is important for early intervention professions to understand how different forms of reciprocity may predict infant development in salient domains (i.e., language, mobility, and co-occupation). Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate associations among related measures of development in and across age, while also exploring how reciprocity influences the acquisition of developmental milestones.

Method: We examined these important areas of development in relation to novel caregiver-infant co-occupational constructs in addition to …
