Giant Cell Fibroma Of The Oral Cavity. I. A Clinico-Pathological Study In Thai Population, Kittipong Dhanuthai, Somporn Swasdison

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Thirty six cases of giant cell fibroma of the oral cavity in Thai patients were clinico-pathologically analyzed. The results showed that giant celll fibroma occurred in all age groups with the predilection for the third decade of life. No significant sex predilection of occurrence was noted. Clinically, the lesions presented as sessile or pedunculated masses with either smooth or papillary surface. Most of the lesions were under 10 mm in diameter. The most common location was the gingiva. Microscopically, the lesion was composed of large stellate-shaped mononuclear and multinuclear cells in a highly vascularized loose connective tissue. From this study, …

Female Genital Mutiiation, Allison Blount

The Corinthian

Female circumcision, also called female genital mutilation (FGM), is a collective name given to several traditional operations performed on girls and women in 28 African countries primarily but also in Asia among some minorities. According to the Rainbo organization, FQiM is an ancient custom estimated to affect 130 million girls and women; there are about 2 million new cases each year. Recently, the practice has also begun to surface within immigrant communities in Europe, Australia, Canada, and the United States ("Female Genital Mutilation: A Fact"). Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the efficacy of aerobic exercises versus strengthening, stretching and mobilization exercises in patients with subacute or chronic low back pain. Forty patients were recruited for the study and randomly allocated to two groups. All patients were evaluated at admission, mid-treatment and termination of the program by visual analog scale (VAS), face scale, weekly analgesic intake and Million visual analog scale for pain. They were also scored by Roland-Morris scale and Oswestry scale for functional impairment. Beck depression inventory was used to evaluate depression and lumbar range of motion was measured …

A Cohort Study To Determine The Epidemiology Of Estuary-Associated Syndrome, Elizabeth Turf, Lily Ingsrisawang, Megan Turf, J.D. Ball, Michael Stutts, John Taylor, Suzanne Jenkins

Virginia Journal of Science

From the Introduction:

Estuary-Associated Syndrome (EAS) is the name given to a potential illness characterized primarily by changes in an individual's cognitive abilities, including acute onset of memory loss or the sudden inability to solve simple problems. Other possible signs of illness include respiratory symptoms, skin rash, or gastrointestinal distress. This illness appears to arise following exposure to toxin produced by Pfiesteria piscicida, or other toxic dinoflagellates, that resides in estuary waters.

In order to learn more about this possible syndrome and to determine if a causal relationship exists between association to waters containing Pfiesteria or other toxic …

Determination Of Kinetic, Structural And Functional Changes In The Hearts Of Dogs With Experimentally Introduced Myocardial Infarction Using M-Mode And 2-D Echocardiography, Utku Bakirel, Tarik Bi̇lal

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, the kinetic, structural and functional changes of the ventriculus in dogs with myocardial infarction introduced experimentally were examined using M-Mode and two dimensional (2-D) echocardiography. 21 healthy, mixed-breed dogs of both genders (16 females and 5 males) and of various ages were used in this study. Different coronary arteries were ligated in each dog with silk sutures and the dogs were grouped accordingly: left distalis descending coronary artery (Group I, n=7), right distalis descending coronary artery (Group II, n=7) and both left and right distalis decending coronary artery (Group III, n=7). All the dogs were examined using …
