Morphometric Analysis Of The Skulls Of Domestic Cattle (Bos Taurus L.) And Water Buffalo (Bubalus Bubalis L.) In Turkey, Ermi̇ş Özkan, Abu Bakar Siddiq, Ki̇fayet Oya Kahveci̇oğlu, Muhsi̇n Öztürk, Vedat Onar

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A total of 20 domestic cattle (Bos taurus L.) and 15 water buffalo (Bubalis bubalis L.) skulls were analyzed in this study. All of the specimens belonged to female individuals. Using a total of 27 craniometric measurements from each of the skulls, 9 indices were calculated. Although there were statistically significant differences between the linear measurements of the skulls of both species, while calculating the indices with their ratios, the values of the measurements of the facial area were determinative in the craniology. Among these indices, the facial index 1 value was statistically significant (P < 0.01) in the comparison of these two species. On the other hand, while considering the orbit and foramen magnum measurements, in contrast with the transversal measurement, the height was more determinant for their index and form.

Animal Remains Of Alaybeyi Höyük, Abu Bakar Siddiq Jan 2019

Animal Remains Of Alaybeyi Höyük, Abu Bakar Siddiq

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This paper presents the zooarchaeological observations on animal remains of Alaybeyi Höyük unearthed from 2016 and 2017 excavation sessions. Dated to 4721-4553 cal. BC, Alaybeyi stands so far as the oldest archaeological settlement discovered in northeast Anatolia. Therefore, the faunal assemblage at Alaybeyi offers great opportunity to study the status of animals and their relationships with humans in the largely unexplored Kars-Erzurum plateau covering a period from the Chalcolithic to Late Iron Age. Taxonomic and osteometric analyses show that, like the present day, cattle were dominant over caprines, revealing extensive cattle pastoralism in the region for at least about 7 …

Phenotypic Characterization And Differentiation Of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Originating From Adipose Tissue, Ece Çerçi̇, Hati̇ce Erdost Jan 2019

Phenotypic Characterization And Differentiation Of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Originating From Adipose Tissue, Ece Çerçi̇, Hati̇ce Erdost

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Stem cells are known as undifferentiated cells that are capable of divisions and self-renewal over an extended period. Adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) are known to differentiate into many different organ and tissue cells. The purpose of this study was to characterize adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells in detail based on the expression status of certain surface markers and differentiation stages for clinical and laboratory applications. The migrating phase and mitotic property of the cells from adipose tissue were assessed under a microscope. Cell counting was performed during the first, second, and third passages. The cells were differentiated into …

A Nasopharyngeal Inflammatory Polyp In A Cat: Histopathology, Immunohistochemistry, And Ct Scan Findings, Hamid Reza Moosavian, Hamideh Esmaeilzadeh, Ramesh Vahabi, Rana Vafaei, Mohammad Reza Esmailinejad Jan 2019

A Nasopharyngeal Inflammatory Polyp In A Cat: Histopathology, Immunohistochemistry, And Ct Scan Findings, Hamid Reza Moosavian, Hamideh Esmaeilzadeh, Ramesh Vahabi, Rana Vafaei, Mohammad Reza Esmailinejad

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The etiology of feline nasopharyngeal inflammatory polyps (FNIPs) has not been completely understood. To the best of our knowledge, there is no study having evaluated the immunohistochemical features of FNIPs. More studies about the histopathological characteristics of such lesions can play a pivotal role in further understanding the disease. We present the clinical manifestations, computed tomography (CT) scan, histopathology, and immunohistochemistry features of a FNIP in a 7-year-old male neutered domestic shorthair cat. CT scan examination showed nasopharyngeal space occupation with some parts of destruction in nasal cavity. Immunohistochemical study of the sections demonstrated the presence of CD3$^{+}$ lymphocytes, and …

Accumulation And Histological Transformation In The Gills, Liver, Muscles, And Skin In Oreochromis Niloticus Induced By Mercury, Khalid Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Zubair Ahmad, Hmoud Fares Alkahem Al-Balawi, Fahad Al-Misned, Shahid Mahboob, El Amin Mohammad Suliman Jan 2019

Accumulation And Histological Transformation In The Gills, Liver, Muscles, And Skin In Oreochromis Niloticus Induced By Mercury, Khalid Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Zubair Ahmad, Hmoud Fares Alkahem Al-Balawi, Fahad Al-Misned, Shahid Mahboob, El Amin Mohammad Suliman

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Specimens of Oreochromis niloticus (One control and 3 experimental groups) were fed diets mixed with different doses of mercury (control group = free of mercury; group 1 = 500 mg/kg; group 2 = 750 mg/kg, and group 3 = 1000 mg/kg) for 60 days in order to study its accumulation and histopathological alterations in the liver, gills, skeletal muscles, and skin. The results obtained revealed that mercury accumulation was significantly (P < 0.05) high in the liver and gills compared to the muscles and skin. The order of accumulation in these organs revealed to be liver > gills > muscles > skin. The fish fed various doses of mercury also showed histological alterations in these organs. Epithelial lifting and epithelial hypertrophy were seen in the gills of the …
