Ischemic Modified Albumin As A New Biomarker In Predicting Oxidative Stress In Alopecia Areata, Hati̇ce Ataş, Müzeyyen Gönül, Yasi̇n Öztürk, Mustafa Kavutçu

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Results show that oxidative stress is a pathophysiologic factor for alopecia areata (AA); however, the markers used can be confounding. Thus, we aimed to investigate the role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of AA through an evaluation of ischemia-modified albumin (IMA); other markers of the oxidant/antioxidant system, such as SOD, CAT, GSH-ST, and MDA; and contributing clinical risk factors. Materials and methods: The usefulness of IMA as a new marker for oxidative stress was compared with that of other markers and evaluated in patients with AA.Results: The mean serum level of IMA was of higher statistical significance in AA …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor 2 (S1PR2), a member of the seven-transmembrane receptor family, can be activated by its natural ligand sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) to initiate signal transduction and is involved in a wide range of biological effects such as immune cell migration and vascular permeability. Its relationship with neuropathic pain (NP) has not been reported. In this study, the effects of S1PR2 on the development of NP were studied.Materials and methods: We generated a model of NP by partial sciatic nerve ligation (pSNL). The 50% paw withdrawal threshold of the wild-type (WT) group and the S1PR2 deficiency group were measured …

Materials and methods: Sections were taken from paraffin blocks of 120 patients who were divided into 6 groups as follows: G1 (n = 20), proliferative endometrium (PE); G2 (n = 20), EH without atypia; G3 (n = 20), EH with atypia; G4 (n = 20), stage 1A, grade 1 EC; G5 (n = 20), stage 1A, grade 2 EC; and G6 (n = 20), stage 1A, grade 3 EC. TRPM2 and TRPM7 genes were analyzed with qRT-PCR in paraffin-embedded tissue …

Background/aim: The aim of this study was to determine antibiotic resistance profiles and spa types of Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from food business employees in Çanakkale, Turkey.Materials and methods:S.aureus isolates were collected from hand and nasal swabs of 300 individuals working in 17 food businesses and 9 hospital kitchens. All S. aureus isolates obtained from each carrier were typed by staphylococcal protein A (spa) typing method.Staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) and multilocus sequence typing (MLST) of MRSA were performed by sequencing method. Results: Of the 300 individuals, 125 (41.6%) were found to be carriers of S. aureus, 215 isolates of which …

Background/aim: The aim of this study was to determine the usefulness of tigecycline in combination treatment of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia infections by evaluating the in vitro synergistic effects of tigecycline with various antibiotics using the E-test method.Materials and methods: Synergy testing by E-test was performed with various antibiotic combinations in 10 S. maltophilia isolates identified as a cause of infection. The antibiotics used in the study included tigecycline (TGC), cefoperazone-sulbactam (CPS), ceftazidime (TZ), levofloxacin (LEV), and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (cotrimoxazole)(TS). Four different combinations (TGC-CPS, TGC-TZ, TGC-LEV, TGC-TS) were studied with the E-test synergy method. Results: S. maltophilia isolates were found to have the …
