Background: Patients unable to self-report pain are at increased risk for inadequate pain management and less than optimal outcomes. The implementation of behavioral pain scales, such as the Critical-Care Pain Observation Tool (CPOT), have demonstrated an improvement in pain management and patient outcomes.

According to the most recent CDC statistics, the influenza virus kills between 12,000 and 56,000 people per year in the United States. Although influenza vaccination is recommended each year, only about half of all Americans are actually receiving the vaccine annually. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess provider adherence of an initial alcohol withdrawal protocol among adult inpatients, correlate outcome variables with protocol initiation, and examine the factors influencing provider decisions to implement all parts of the protocol.

METHODS: This multi-center descriptive evaluation utilized a retrospective medical record review and qualitative survey. A convenience sample of 313 inpatients represented 395 separate admissions between January and June 2018 in the four adult hospitals of a large health care system. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to examine whether inpatients with liver disease at University of Kentucky Hospital receiving lactulose are meeting the protocol of 2-4 bowel movements per day. Research shows that lactulose is the medication of choice used to treat and prevent hepatic encephalopathy (HE). Methods: Healthcare professionals who provide diabetes care and education were invited to participate in a health literacy education session with a pre and post-intervention knowledge survey. METHODS: This was a descriptive retrospective study of the effect of nurse navigators in increasing colorectal screening in primary care settings within Jefferson county and its surrounding counties.
