Anxiety, Depression, And Suicidal Ideation Among Transgender Individuals With Gender Receiving Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy, Rosa E. Diaz

Purpose: Gender may align with one’s sex but doesn’t always and sometimes leads to Gender Dysphoria (GD). Gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) is often one of the first medical treatments used for GD yet few studies have examined the effects of GAHT on mental health (depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation).Methods: Participants were 18 years or older and self-reported as being diagnosed with GD and recruited across the United States using snowball and convenience sampling. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) was used to measure depression scores, General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) was used to measure anxiety scores, and Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R) was …

Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) is a multi-faceted, complex ailment affecting many individuals and their families across the globe. Currently, there are multiple interventions used in the treatment of OUD, many of which are designed to reduce cravings for opioids. Cravings for opioids are a strong predictor of relapse in the disorder. However, many of the interventions used in clinical practice have inherent risks including a potential for abuse and diversion. Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is an outpatient procedure that may be effective in reducing cravings for opioids, thereby reducing relapse. Eritrean-American rapper Ermias “Nipsey Hussle” Asghedom’s murder represented a cultural cataclysmic event that startled the hip-hop community and triggered previous memories of Black men’s homicidal deaths in rap and Black American urban communities. Nipsey Hussle’s death inspired touching rap tribute songs by Black men rappers, who sought to commemorate his cultural legacy and express their bereavement pains as homicide survivors. Rap tribute songs occupy a significant history, as rappers historically employed them to honor hip-hop’s fallen soldiers, communicate their homicide survivorship bereavement processes, and speak about social perils in the Black community.
