Use Of Electronic Health Record Reminders To Improve Primary Care Providers’ Colorectal Cancer Screening Recommendations., Terra Renee Schrembs Aug 2023

Use Of Electronic Health Record Reminders To Improve Primary Care Providers’ Colorectal Cancer Screening Recommendations., Terra Renee Schrembs

Doctor of Nursing Practice Papers

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common worldwide cause of cancer morbidity and mortality. CRC mortality is preventable through regular screening. Electronic health record (EHR) reminders for providers can increase providers’ CRC screening recommendations and lead to earlier CRC diagnosis. According to the National Cancer Institute’s Screening and Risk Factors Report for Kentucky by County 2008-2010, 62.7% of adults in a rural Kentucky county aged 50-75 had completed a home based FOBT in the past two years or have ever had a colorectal endoscopy.

Purpose: The purpose of this DNP project was to implement and evaluate an …

An Evaluation Of Covid-19 Vaccination Rates Of The Patients At The Kentucky Racing Health Services Center., Aditya Mehta May 2022

An Evaluation Of Covid-19 Vaccination Rates Of The Patients At The Kentucky Racing Health Services Center., Aditya Mehta

College of Arts & Sciences Senior Honors Theses

COVID-19 vaccines have been widely available to the U.S. public since early 2021. However, vaccination rates still vary considerably across geographical areas and different populations. The objective of this study was to research overall vaccination rates against COVID-19 for Latinx patients at the Kentucky Racing Health Services Center (KRHSC). Vaccination and booster data was collected from June to December 2021 for all unique patients visiting the center. It was initially hypothesized that these rates of vaccination and booster doses for the KRHSC patients would be lower than the data reported by Kentucky and Jefferson County. After a retrospective review, the …

Alcohol Misuse And Abuse Among College Students: An Implementation Of A Screening Program., Tiffany Slaughter Newcomb Aug 2020

Alcohol Misuse And Abuse Among College Students: An Implementation Of A Screening Program., Tiffany Slaughter Newcomb

Doctor of Nursing Practice Papers

Excessive alcohol use in the United States creates serious economic, health, and mortality problems (CountyHealthRankings, 2018). College students experience high rates of use, binge drinking, and 20% of college students meet the criteria for alcohol use disorder [AUD] (NIH, 2014). Screening by healthcare providers (HCPs) in the student health setting is critical and a recommended strategy for reducing negative consequences of alcohol use experienced by college students (US Preventive Services Task Force, 2018).

Aims: The objective of this project was to implement an alcohol screening program among college-age undergraduate students in a university student health center.

Methods: HCPs …

Improving The Rates Of Smoking History Documentation In The Electronic Medical Record., Megan Mccleese Vitellaro Jul 2020

Improving The Rates Of Smoking History Documentation In The Electronic Medical Record., Megan Mccleese Vitellaro

Doctor of Nursing Practice Papers

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related deaths in the United States, and Kentucky leads the nation in lung cancer deaths. Lung cancer care also contributes billions of dollars a year to the cost of health care in this country. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) for lung cancer screening with a grade B recommendation, which is a covered service under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines. In order to qualify, patients must have an appropriately documented smoking history. A primary care office was identified within a major healthcare …

The Use Of Simulation To Practice Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Sexual Health Risk Screening, Management, And Follow-Up Within A Doctor Of Nursing Practice Program., Skyler K. Frye

Doctor of Nursing Practice Papers

Introduction: Incidence and prevalence for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has yet to experience a significant decline. Increasing provider knowledge regarding use of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, an HIV prevention drug, correlates with increased provider risk screening & prescribing PrEP. Standardized patient (SP) simulation is an effective teaching method for healthcare students to increase knowledge and confidence in providing sexual healthcare.

Purpose: The purpose of this project was to evaluate an educational program aimed at increasing participant knowledge attainment and self-confidence in the ability to ascertain a sexual health history and advance the participant’s ability to manage PrEP candidates in a primary …
