Medication administration errors were reported to have an error rate of 60% in early research mainly in the form of the wrong dose, time, or rate. Working conditions were found to be one of the main contributors to these errors. Recognizing and reporting medication errors are key to the implementation of the reduction of this critical health problem (Hughes & Blegen, 2008). DataRay Inc. People in California who suffer from mental health conditions are often admitted involuntarily to hospitals on 72 hour psychiatric evaluation holds if they are deemed imminently dangerous to themselves, or others, or are gravely disabled. Observational patient safety checks are performed and based on patient acuity and hospital standards. Variations exist among different clinical settings with regard to best practices and the patient subpopulations that may warrant less frequent safety checks. The purpose of this communication improvement project is to incorporate huddles between interdisciplinary departments within a microsystem in order to improve customer satisfaction by decreasing the number of grievances. Based on the increasing number of grievances due to delayed hospital discharge, which results from a lack of communication between team members, there is an increased need for communication between the microsystem. By implementing weekly huddles between the Inpatient and Outpatient nurses, not only will there be increased care-coordination, but there will also be a decreased delay in discharge from the hospital caused by missed or no communication. The synthesis of 3,7-dimethyl-7-methoxyoctane-2-ol (Osyrol), an important sandalwood odorant, from 3,7-dimethylocta-1,6-diene (dihydromyrcene) was recently accomplished by two groups, both utilizing a two-step epoxide formation and ring opening approach. Here, the synthesis of Osyrol from 3,7-Dimethyloct-6-en-1-ol (citronellol) is accomplished in a novel six-step approach. The key steps in this synthesis is the Wacker Oxidation of a terminal double bond followed by sodium borohydride (NaBH₄) reduction. Though most of the steps in this reaction scheme resulted in limited success, the key steps occurred with high yields.

This research explores solutions for individualizing and improving care for pediatric patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Perioperative Setting of an Outpatient Surgery Center. Specifically, it seeks to determine if providing parent and staff resources on Autism Spectrum Disorder is significantly helpful in increasing confidence in the staff by the parents and the staff themselves. Participants included thirty-five surveyed families who had pediatric patients visiting perioperative services and staff who work on the unit.
