Introduction: Low-magnitude, high-frequency (LMHF) mechanical vibration has been proposed as a possible adjunctive retention method after orthodontic treatment. In this study, we explored the mechanism of using LMHF vibration to improve bone formation during retention phase. We aimed to provide insight of global gene expression and cellular activities of PDL cells under tension, as well as identify novel biomarkers for induced osteogenesis by using LMHF mechanical vibration as adjunct tool in retention phase. Objective: Alloys used in retention wires corrode in the oral environment. Previous studies have examined the effects of fluoride on archwires used in active treatment, but not on retention wires. The goal of this study was to determine what effect fluoride exposure has on corrosion of various lingual bonded retainer wires in the mouth. Methods: Twenty samples from six different wire types were tested in two solutions. Half were tested in Fusayama-Meyer artificial saliva, while the other half were tested in Fusayama-Meyer plus fluoride correlated to the concentration of toothpaste. Introduction: Mechanical vibration (MV) possesses anti-resorptive properties that can possibly enhance the stability of the dentition during retention, lessening the potential for relapse of teeth to their initial positions. In this project, we established a mouse model and investigated the effects of MV on bone modeling during orthodontic retention. Materials and Methods: Thirty-two 14-week-old inbred strain C57BL/6 male mice were randomly assigned into four groups: 1) Control (N=6); 2) Mechanical Vibration (MV) (N =6); 3) Orthodontic Retention (OR) (N=9); and 4) Orthodontic Retention and Mechanical Vibration (ORMV) (N=11).
