Pain in sickle cell disease (SCD) is associated with increased morbidity, mortality, and high health care costs. Although episodic acute pain is the hallmark of this disorder, there is an increasing awareness that chronic pain is part of the pain experience of many older adolescents and adults. A common set of criteria for classifying chronic pain associated with SCD would enhance SCD pain research efforts in epidemiology, pain mechanisms, and clinical trials of pain management interventions, and ultimately improve clinical assessment and management. Dichotic tests evaluate binaural integration through simultaneous presentation of different stimuli to each ear of a listener who has normal hearing sensitivity in both ears. Dichotic listening deficits may lead to problems with language, communication, reading, or academic performance. If accurately identified, dichotic deficits may be treatable with listening training or managed with accommodation. However, it is not clear which of several commercially-available dichotic test recordings are best for audiologists to use when assessing binaural integration in children. Objective

As the senior population in Canada rises, more middle aged residents of Canada will find themselves taking on a caregiving role, often times for a parent with dementia. This research examines the lived experiences of daughters/daughters-in-law providing primary informal care to their mothers/mothers-in-law with dementia in order to understand the motivations, effects, and transitions within caregiving relationships.

Methods

Phenomenology was the theoretical orientation used to guide this research and captured individuals’ lived experiences. A wide range of the epigenetic effectors that regulate chromatin modification, gene expression, genomic stability, and DNA repair contain structurally conserved domains called plant homeodomain (PHD) fingers. Alternations of several PHD finger-containing proteins (PHFs) due to genomic amplification, mutations, deletions, and translocations have been linked directly to various types of cancer. However, little is known about the genomic landscape and the clinical significance of PHFs in breast cancer. Intracranial abscesses are rare complications of Streptococcus pneumoniae infections, and to our knowledge, there have been no case reports of post-infectious vasculitis developing in such patients. Here we describe the case of a 48-year-old post-splenectomy male who developed post-infectious vasculitis following S. pneumoniae otitis media complicated by mastoiditis, osteomyelitis, meningitis, and intracranial abscess. Clinicians ought to be aware of the possible adverse outcomes of invasive S. pneumoniae and the limitations of current treatment options.

Resistance to multidrug therapy (MDT) is one of the complications in the treatment of Hansen’s disease/Morbus Hansen (MH). There are two types of resistancy, which are primary and secondary. MDT-multibacillary (MB) resistance must be suspected when no clinical improvement and the acid-fast bacilli (AFB) index is not reduced after 12 months of therapy. A 28-year-old woman with paresthesia on her face, arms and legs since 2.5 years ago, accompanied by thickening of the right posterior tibial nerve. This study was attempted to investigate the performance and the effect of occupational therapy intervention via visual-motor integration (VMI), visual perception and motor coordination in adults with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). Methods. seven adults with PWS were included in the study. VMI, visual perception and motor coordination were assessed using the Beery Visual-Motor Integration test and VMI Supplemental tests in the beginning of the study, shortly after receiving the treatment and one month after the intervention. In this casereport, we present a pair of siblings, a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman, who were both diagnosed as having late-onset Pompe disease. Each underwent cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) in 2013 and 2015, respectively. The major finding in these two cases was that enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) over a 24-month period improved or stabilized pulmonary function despite late-onset Pompe disease. CPET revealed improved aerobic capacity in the brother, who was physically active, but deterioration in the sister, who lived a sedentary lifestyle. Neural leprosy is characterized by neurological deficit without skin lesions, with a prevalence ranging from 1% to 17.7%. Diagnosis might be difficult and need a multidisciplinary approach. This is a case of axonal type motor and sensory polyradiculoneuropathy of the peripheral facial nerve. A 26-year-old woman was referred from the neurology clinic with facial paralysis, suspected as leprosy. Many countries have developed comprehensive developmental motor assessment scale for preschool children (DMASPC). At present, there is no comprehensive gross motor and fine motor assessment scales for preschool children in Taiwan.
