Compassion fatigue (CF) is a significant cause of nurse burnout (BO). Oncology nurses are particularly susceptible to CF because of the continual contact with terminally ill patients and recurrent experiences with patients’ death. A search of existing literature found no published studies that explicitly focused on interviewing oncology nurses to gain their expression of their lived experiences with CF while caring for terminally ill patients. This phenomenological qualitative study explored oncology nurses’ experiences dealing with and managing CF when caring for terminally ill patients. The intention to stay in nursing staff working with adult patients in a hospital setting is a major concern for healthcare organizations because of its effect on patient health outcomes. Grounded in the social cognitive career theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to investigate resilience as a moderating factor in the relationship between burnout and intention to stay for licensed registered nurses with BSN degrees working with adults in a hospital setting. Burnout rates of correctional employees are higher than employees in the general public. The purpose of this study was to identify how occupational factors impact burnout rates among correctional mental health workers. Grounded in the job-demands theoretical model, this study compared burnout rates among mental health staff within county jails and state prisons. Burnout was measured using the Maslach Burnout Inventory and Occupational factors were measured using the Areas of Work life Survey and Pandemic Experience and Perception Survey. The role of the nurse has changed considerably over the past decade. Nurses are facing alarming rates of burnout that is causing them to leave the profession prematurely. The practice-focused question was to determine if a nurse staff education program on Code Lavender that focused on wellness and resiliency strategies helped to decrease nurse burnout. The purpose of this doctor of nursing practice project was to educate nurses on an 11-bed inpatient oncology unit at a hospital located in Maryland. AbstractBurnout negatively impacts the performance of health care providers, decreasing the quality of care provided to patients and affecting patients’ experience. This problem is evident in health care staff on long-term care units (LTCUs) as they strive to meet their patients’ chronic and acute care needs.
