The Relationship Between Salinity And Drought Tolerance In Turfgrasses And Woody Species, Nisa Leksungnoen May 2012

The Relationship Between Salinity And Drought Tolerance In Turfgrasses And Woody Species, Nisa Leksungnoen

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Both salt and water deficit make it difficult for plants to uptake water from soil. Thus, plants under those conditions may respond and deal with them similarly. The overall objectives of this study were to 1) determine visual appearance and physiological responses, and mechanisms to deal with salt and water deficit of turfgrasses and woody species, and 2) determine the relationship between salt and water deficit tolerance ability in those species.

Five turfgrass entries, ‘Gazelle’ and ‘Matador’ tall fescue (TF), ‘Midnight’ Kentucky bluegrass (KBG), PI368233 (Tolerant KBG), and PI372742 (Susceptible KBG), and three woody species, bigtooth maple (xeric-non saline), bigleaf …

Does Empathic Accuracy Mediate The Relationships Between Individual Psychological Characteristics And Adolescent Romantic Relationship Functioning?, Charles George Bentley May 2010

Does Empathic Accuracy Mediate The Relationships Between Individual Psychological Characteristics And Adolescent Romantic Relationship Functioning?, Charles George Bentley

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This study investigated empathic accuracy in adolescent romantic relationships. The project examined the relationships between psychological characteristics and relationship outcomes (i.e., satisfaction and aggression) to determine if the relationships were mediated by empathic accuracy. Participants were 92 heterosexual couples aged 14-18 years old who lived in rural areas in Utah and Arizona. Couple members completed surveys assessing attitudes and behaviors in their relationships and a video-recall procedure in which partners rated their own and their partner's behaviors during problem-solving discussion.

Empathic accuracy was generally not related to psychological characteristics or outcomes. It became apparent that there were limitations with the …

The Relationship Among The Contributing Factors To Anorexia Nervosa, Stephanie S. Plunkett, David Stein May 1995

The Relationship Among The Contributing Factors To Anorexia Nervosa, Stephanie S. Plunkett, David Stein

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

Anorexia nervosa is now being viewed as a multidimensional disorder in terms of predisposing factors such as genetics, biology, and environment. Results from twin studies suggest that part of a susceptibility to AN may lie in genetic factors (Holland et al., 1984, 1988; Treasure and Holland, 1991). However, the nature of a genetic contribution, if any, remains unclear. Neurochemical alterations have been found to be associated with AN, but it is difficult to assess what role these neurochemical changes play in the etiology of the disorder since they may precipitate, accompany, or follow weight loss (Fava et al., 1989). Abnormal …

The Relationship Between Adiposity And Functional Capacity In 60 Women Attending Utah State University 1975-76, Barbara P. Gibbs May 1977

The Relationship Between Adiposity And Functional Capacity In 60 Women Attending Utah State University 1975-76, Barbara P. Gibbs

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The purpose of this study was to test whether a relationship exists between adiposity and functional capacity. A moderate negative correlation was found between adiposity and functional capacity. This indicates that as adiposity increases, functional capacity decreases.

Relationship Between Opinions Toward Fluoridation And Socioeconomic Status Of Salt Lake City Residents, Craig D. Kunz May 1974

Relationship Between Opinions Toward Fluoridation And Socioeconomic Status Of Salt Lake City Residents, Craig D. Kunz

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The purpose of the study was to determine if a relationship exists among opinions toward fluoridation of public water supplies, income, and level of education of the people of Salt Lake City, Utah. There were also two secondary concerns. One was to determine if a relationship exists between opinions toward fluoridation and other controversial social issues. The issues identified for investigations were: (1) the Supreme Court decision on abortion, (2) the Equal Rights Amendment, and (3) capital punishment. The second was to determine the factors on which opinions regarding fluoridation were based.

The results of the data that was collected …
