Effect Of Increasing External Loads On Countermovement Jump Landing Kinetics Between Ncaa Di Women's Soccer And Gymnastics On Land Vs In Water, Paul Bryan Beachem Iv May 2016

Effect Of Increasing External Loads On Countermovement Jump Landing Kinetics Between Ncaa Di Women's Soccer And Gymnastics On Land Vs In Water, Paul Bryan Beachem Iv

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of differing loads on landing kinetics on land, and in aquatic conditions. Twenty four NCAA DI athletes volunteered for this study twelve female soccer players and twelve female gymnasts. Participants performed three jumps with four differing external loads in both land and aquatic environments. External loads were body weight (BW), BW*1.1, BW*1.2, BW*1.3 and applied via a weighted vest. All external loads for both conditions were added based upon participants BW on land. Kinetic measures were peak force, rate of force development, and impulse of the landing phase of the …

Effect Of Independent Crank Cycling Training On Running Economy In Collegiate Distance Runners, Aaron W. Smith May 2012

Effect Of Independent Crank Cycling Training On Running Economy In Collegiate Distance Runners, Aaron W. Smith

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

In the competitive sport world, the goal to become number one is what all athletes desire and train to obtain. Athletes and coaches are constantly looking for the new techniques to put their athlete atop of the podium. With that in mind, what is the new training technique that will accomplish that goal of success? Distance runners are always looking for the new training techniques that will accomplish that goal. Cross training, using one type of exercise to enhance another unrelated, is one way that athletes are constantly exploring to see if this can be successful.

Cycling is just one …

A Study Of The Effects Of Body Image Education On Body Image In Adults Aged 60 And Older, Amy Peterson Hirtle May 1996

A Study Of The Effects Of Body Image Education On Body Image In Adults Aged 60 And Older, Amy Peterson Hirtle

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Body image has been addressed through weight loss, but little research has been done that addresses accepting one's body. Even less research has been done on the body image concerns of older adults. Adults over age 60 who live in Arizona and spend their summers in Logan, Utah, participated in a body image education at Utah State University. The Body Esteem Scale and the Inventory of Positive Psychological Attitudes were used to measure the effect of the course on the participants. Older adults on average scored as high or higher than did younger older adults on both measurements.

Body image …

Wind Noise: Its Effect On Human Audition, William Roy Nelson May 1972

Wind Noise: Its Effect On Human Audition, William Roy Nelson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

An examination was made of the acoustic characteristics of wind turbulence generated noise in a car traveling at 70 mph over smoothly paved highway with the driver's window down. The overall noise level was found to be at 112 dB SPL with the predominance of energy in the low frequencies. The study was concerned with the effects of such noise on human audition in terms of temporary threshold shift.

Twenty normal hearing young adults were exposed to a tape recording of wind noise for 15 minutes. Post-exposure auditory thresholds at seven discreet frequencies were compared to pre-exposure auditory thresholds at …

Comparison Of The Effects Of 97 Per Cent And 21 Per Cent Oxygen Mixtures Upon Recovery From Treadmill Running Among Male Wrestlers At Utah State University, Michael P. Brooks May 1971

Comparison Of The Effects Of 97 Per Cent And 21 Per Cent Oxygen Mixtures Upon Recovery From Treadmill Running Among Male Wrestlers At Utah State University, Michael P. Brooks

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

A comparison of the effects on recovery while breathing a 97 per cent oxygen mixture and normal compressed atmospheric air after treadmill running was determined among nine male wrestlers at Utah State University. The variables examined were heart rate and percentages of oxygen and carbon dioxide in expired air. The practice of some athletic teams of administering oxygen to participants during time out periods was the motivation for this study.

A great majority of the studies reviewed conclude that oxygen does not play a significant role in aiding recovery from physical activity.

The experiment first consisted of eight runs on …
