Production methods in animal farming have changed dramatically over the past 20 years. An emphasis on cheaper, more efficient ways of production has provided the impetus for larger, more concentrated systems. Improvements in building construction, heating and ventilation have been developed that provide the opportunity to increase the number of anima ls that can be raised in confinement. Massage therapists celebrated along with other complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practitioners at the release of Eisenberg et al.'s follow-up of a national survey on the trends in the use of CAM in the United States from 1990-1997. Not only did the use of CAM increase from 33.8 percent to 42.1 percent, massage was one of the therapies that increased the most (Eisenberg et al., 1998). The field of substance abuse has had a history of relapse. Both In-Patient and Out-Patient Treatment facilities have experienced the "revolving door" effect (Walton, Blow, and Booth, 2001). D.R. Laws found in research he conducted that 80% of the patients treated, relapsed 12 months after treatment and two-thirds of the relapses were within 90 days of treatment (Laws, 1999). Based on a review of literature, there are many short-term and long-term effects including emotional, behavioral, and physical issues. Children and adolescents vary in adjustment to divorce depending on multiple factors such as communication, conflict, and parental adjustment. Research has examined the effects of parental alcoholism on children and adolescents. This paper will address the different ways teens are affected by parental alcoholism, identifying medical, emotional, and social dangers, while also trying to link specific aspects of parental alcoholism with each harmful effect. It is commonly believed that caffeine negatively effects hydration status by acting as a diuretic agent. However, previously reported findings on the effects of caffeine on hydration status are controversial. These studies predominantly used healthy college-aged males. Researchers have suggested that females may respond differently to caffeine than males. Some of these differences may be attributed to menstrual cycle and oral contraceptive steroid (OCS) use. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a 365 mg dose of caffeine would alter urine output (volume) and hydration status (urine specific gravity) in college-aged females while controlling for the menstrual cycle …
