Development Of A Project To Improve Prenatal Education At A Rural Medically Assisted Treatment Center Focused On Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome And Parenting Skills., Tracey Brink

Doctor of Nursing Practice Papers

Abstract

Background: Many women who suffer from substance use disorder syndrome (SUDS) have low self-esteem and can be labeled as “unfit parents” which can impede infant bonding and maternal sobriety. Parent and self-efficacy are associated with improved maternal-infant attachment and sobriety (Adams, et.al. 2021). The earlier prenatal education is implemented, the more empowered the mothers will feel to be able to help their infants and themselves.

Setting: A medically assisted treatment center (MAT) for pregnant women who presents with SUDS. The six-bed inpatient facility is in a rural county in central Kentucky.

Purpose: To create an educational program about parent …

The Implementation Of A Standardized Car Safety Seat Discharge Teaching To Improve Self-Efficacy In Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurses., Madeline Sass

Doctor of Nursing Practice Papers

Background: There is a lack of standardization for car safety seat education to caregivers before hospital discharge. Nationally, 59% of motor vehicle accident deaths occur because the car seat is misused (Greenwall, 2015). The American Academy of Pediatrics (1999) states this is a gap in care because all caregivers need to receive proper car safety seat instruction before discharge. Purpose: This quality improvement project aimed to increase nursing self-efficacy and compliance of registered nurses (RNs) by implementing a standardized CSS discharge intervention. Methods: RNs on the unit were educated with a 7-minute presentation video titled “Car Seat Safety: Discharge Teaching” …

Anxiety And Self-Efficacy Related To Learning Neuroanatomy In An Integrated Medical Curriculum., Jessica S. Bergden

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Medical student anxiety towards learning neuroanatomy — neurophobia, a key obstacle in medical education, is influencing medical student success and potentially swaying medical students away from neurology careers. This is particularly concerning with condensed neuroanatomy instructional hours from curriculum integration and the concurrent shortage of neurologists, combined with the rising prevalence of neurological disease, and medical students choosing neurological specialties at lower rates. Neuroanatomy education is one factor described in the literature as contributing toneurophobia, yet specific ways in which neuroanatomy education could be improved have not yet been explained. In this present work, we demonstrate four specific domains, namely …

Evaluation Of A Blood Pressure Education Program On Knowledge And Self-Efficacy In Patient Care Associates ., Casey Prestigiacomo

Doctor of Nursing Practice Papers

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) revealed common errors made by healthcare professionals when measuring blood pressure (BP) in adult inpatients. These errors include using incorrectly sized cuffs, improper cuff placement, and inappropriate patient positioning. Inconsistent cuff sizes and position lead to underestimated and overestimated results, directly impacting patient care and outcomes. Additionally, the ACC/AHA identified patient position and talking during assessments as factors that directly impact the accuracy of the results. At Norton Healthcare facilities, a majority of BPs are obtained by patient care associates (PCAs). The purpose of this quality improvement project was …
