Pregnancy and the delivery of an infant mark a unique time of engagement in healthcare for women in treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD). The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology calls for a comprehensive approach to perinatal healthcare delivery for pregnant women with OUD in order to facilitate improved health outcomes and increase patient-provider collaboration. Intro: Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)is one of the most prevalent and deadly SUD’s in the country and many barriers exist for individuals living with homelessness and concurrent psychiatric illnesses when hoping to engage in Medication-Assisted-Recovery/Treatment (MAR/MAT). The current study evaluates the Pathways to Housing PA’s (PTHPA) Housing First(HF) model which provides scatter-site housing with social and maintenance services to individuals with a history of chronic homelessness and a diagnosis of OUD.

Introduction: Opioid use during pregnancy poses risk to both the mother and fetus, including fetal loss and pre-term birth. Prior research suggests that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are a plausible antecedent to opioid abuse. However, there is insufficient understanding of the association between prior ACEs, familial history of substance use, and treatment outcomes in pregnant women receiving treatment for opioid addiction.

Women who receive medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder (OUD) are less likely to breastfeed than the general population despite the many possible benefits to the newborn. The ongoing study examines the effect of perceived physician opinion on the outcome of breastfeeding in women receiving MAT for OUD. Women who were receiving MAT for OUD at Thomas Jefferson University’s Family Center were given a survey during their third trimester (n=45), and at 1 month postpartum (n=33) to gather information on the perceived opinion of their physicians on how they should feed their baby and the importance of those opinions. …

However, it remains unclear if there is a significant difference in postoperative outcomes among preoperative opioid-naïve and opioid-tolerant patients who undergo lumbar spinal fusion. Background: Seventy-thousand people in Philadelphia use heroin, and another 50,000 misuse prescription opioids. Philadelphia has increased its capacity for medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) with buprenorphine from 100 slots in 2017 to 2,906 as of December 2018, but clearly there is still a need for thousands of more treatment slots. Additionally, recent evaluations reveal people from vulnerable populations, including homeless, non-white, and those with chronic medical diseases, have compounded difficulty accessing MOUD, even if there is sufficient capacity. Introduction: Breastfeeding has been found to decrease severity of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), however, breastfeeding rates among women with opioid use disorder (OUD) are significantly lower than national averages. CenteringPregnancy, a group prenatal care model, increases exposure to education regarding breastfeeding, making it more likely that patients breastfeed in traditional populations.
