A cervical Vestibular-Evoked Myogenic Potential (cVEMP) is one of the few objective vestibular diagnostic tests available for pediatric populations. This test evaluates the functionality of the saccule end organ through an inhibitory reflex on the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle that inhibits the level of electromyographic (EMG) activity (Wiener-Vacher, 2013). Because the saccule response is measured as an inhibition of EMG in the SCM, it is imperative that the SCM have a tonic contraction prior to eliciting the response and that the contraction of the SCM is equal on the right and left sides. Background: Exposure to childhood trauma have lifelong consequences effecting the health and well-being of the individuals who experienced or witnessed the trauma. As healthcare providers, we must recognize patients who have been exposed to trauma and ensure that it is responded to appropriately. This approach is known as trauma informed care.

Objective: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to increase knowledge, opinion, and self-rated competence related to trauma informed care through the use of an educational intervention. Application of trauma informed care into daily practice was monitored through semi-structured interviews with project participants.

Objective:To conduct a review of literature to determine if no solid food or liquids by mouth for more than or less than six hours impacts the incidence of pulmonary aspiration during procedural sedation in pediatric patients. Methods: A PubMed search was conducted utilizing the following terms: “sedation, fasting, and aspiration” and “NPO, pediatrics, and pre-procedural.” Filters included: “within five years,” “review articles,” and “English.” Articles were then screened and assessed for eligibility based on pediatric population, NPO status, procedural sedation, and risk of pulmonary aspiration. The literature review that was conducted focuses on exploring the most effective way to prevent development of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) as a late effect of childhood obesity or risk thereof. Our research focused on the 8-10 year old at-risk and obese pediatric populations and whether the use of interactive educational interventions in the community setting can be of use to reduce CVD development and improve overall health status. Our findings determined that interactive educational interventions early in childhood can improve health outcomes for these populations and prevent subsequent development of CVD. Introduction: Although the prevalence of bacteremia has largely declined with the development of the Haemophilus Influenza Type b (Hib) and pneumococcal vaccines, it continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children.
