Using Short Message (Sms) To Deliver Appointment Reminders And Reduce No-Show Rates: An Evidence-Based Practice Project, Fernando Serrano

Doctor of Nursing Practice Final Manuscripts

Background/Objectives: Missed appointments (MAs) are correlated with reduced treatment efficacy, increased financial burden on medical institutions, and early treatment terminations for therapy (DeFife, Conklin, Smith, & Poole, 2010). MAs occur for a variety of reasons including, but not limited to severity of illness, financial/geographic constraints, and forgetting the appointment (Filippidou, Lingwood, & Mirza, 2014). Appointment compliance within outpatient mental health clinics has a wide variance with some clinics reporting MAs ranging from 15% to 50% (Car, Gurol-Urganci, de Jongh, Vodopivec-Jamsek, & Atun, 2013).

With decreasing costs and a subsequent massive increase in mobile phone technology use by the general population, …

Haptics-Enabled, Gpu Augmented Surgical Simulation Platform For Glenoid Reaming, Vlad Popa Apr 2019

Haptics-Enabled, Gpu Augmented Surgical Simulation Platform For Glenoid Reaming, Vlad Popa

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Surgical simulators are technological platforms that provide virtual substitutes to the current cadaver-based medical training models. The advantages of exposure to these devices have been thoroughly studied, with enhanced surgical proficiency being one of the assets gained after extensive use. While simulators have already penetrated numerous medical domains, the field of orthopedics remains stagnant despite a demand for the ability to practice uncommon surgeries, such as total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA). Here we extrapolate the algorithms of an inhouse software engine revolving around glenoid reaming, a critical step of TSA. The project’s purpose is to provide efficient techniques for future simulators, …

Learn First, Practice Second Approach To Increase Health Professionals’ Nutrition-Related Knowledge, Attitudes, And Self-Efficacy., Madison E. Santella

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a “learn first, practice second” intervention on the nutrition-related knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy of multidisciplinary health professionals in West Virginia, specifically highlighting the Mediterranean Diet. Data was captured via online surveys at four time points (Baseline, Post-education, Post-immersion, Follow Up). All information was self-reported. This approach consisted of 16 weeks of online education, 2 weeks of cultural immersion in Tuscany, Italy, and a 7 month return to practice period. Data were analyzed using JMP Version Pro 12.2 and SAS Version 9.3 for Windows. Repeated measures ANOVA with irregular spacing …

Adaptation And Validation Of The Situation Awareness Global Assessment Technique For Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Deniz Dishman Jan 2019

Adaptation And Validation Of The Situation Awareness Global Assessment Technique For Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Deniz Dishman

Theses and Dissertations

Anesthesia is a health care specialty fraught with high workload demands, stressful work environments, increased production pressure, work areas with many distractions, an increasing use of advanced technology, and the constant need to prioritize work actions. Effective clinical judgment in this dynamic environment necessitates that the provider demonstrate the ability to project what may occur secondary to actual or potential condition changes. These key elements operationalize situation awareness (SA).

High level SA is an important characteristic for the successful development of student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs). With Endsley’s “Theory of Situation Awareness” as the foundation, the goal of this study …
