A Study Of The Thermal Conductivity Of Pumice, Joseph Mack Ralls Sep 1949

A Study Of The Thermal Conductivity Of Pumice, Joseph Mack Ralls

Mechanical Engineering ETDs

For the past several years, the use of pumice as a light weight aggregate building material has been increasing. At first, it was used only in the construction of building blocks. Recently, however, monolithic pumice concrete homes has been constructed in several New Mexico housing projects. One of the larger of these has been completed at Sandia Base in Albuquerque while still another is contemplated for Los Alamos, New Mexico.

The Design And Construction Of An Air Conditioning Unit For Instructional Use, George Joseph Hildebrandt Sep 1949

The Design And Construction Of An Air Conditioning Unit For Instructional Use, George Joseph Hildebrandt

Mechanical Engineering ETDs

The purpose of this paper is to present an air conditioning unit which was designed and constructed for instructional purposes. The unit, which has two parallel cooling coils so that both the methods of vapor and cold water refrigeration can be demonstrated either individually or simultaneously, consists of filters, cooling coils, humidifier or spray chamber, reheat coil, and fan.

I. Improved Ice Meltage In Ice Boxes; Ii. Temperature Control In Tents - Winter Phase., Robert Beaman Duggan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis consists of two parts: Improved Ice Meltage in Ice Boxes; Temperature Control in Tents - Winter Phase. Improved ice meltage in the Progress refrigerator is discussed in the first part of the thesis. This portion of the work shows that satisfactory refrigerator temperatures and flat ice meltage could not be obtained simultaneously when using V-shaped ice racks, although they could be obtained separately; however, the basket-type chamber offers greater possibilities of obtaining proper temperatures and meltage characteristics. Series of tests are discussed and conclusions drawn from the results. In the second part of the thesis, a method of …

Torque Characteristics Of High Speed Steel Twist Drills, Tien Chi Lee Jan 1949

Torque Characteristics Of High Speed Steel Twist Drills, Tien Chi Lee

Masters Theses

"The drill is the most efficient tool used by machinists, for in no other tool is the cutting surface as large in proportion to the cross sectional area of the body or part that is its real support. Drills have shared evolutionary developments from carbon steels to high speed steels and from flat to twist drills. Many investigations have been made on the twist drills, but due to the majority of their work being based on the size of drills from 1/2 to 1-1/2 inches or larger, there is a dearth of published data on the general problem of drills …

Nebraska Tractor Tests

EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT: John Deere AR

TEST A: The manufacturer's representative operates the tractor for a minimum of 12 hours using light to heavy drawbar loads in each gear.

This serves as a period for limber up, general observation and adjustments. Adjustments that are permissible include valve tappet clearance, breaker ,point gap, spark plug gaps, clutch and others of a similar nature. No new parts or accessories can be installed without having mention made of it in the report. No data' are recorded during this preliminary run except the time that the engine is operated.

Test 418: Caterpillar Model D-2, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab Jan 1949

Test 418: Caterpillar Model D-2, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary. All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University. Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

The Application Of The Relaxation Method To The Solution Of Problems Involving The Flow Of Gases Through Porous Media, Ralph Davis Jan 1949

The Application Of The Relaxation Method To The Solution Of Problems Involving The Flow Of Gases Through Porous Media, Ralph Davis

Masters Theses

"The purpose of this investigation is to determine the feasibility of applying the relaxation method of mathematical analysis to the solution of problems involving the flow of gases through porous media. The relaxation method was first applied to two-dimensional problems by Christopherson and Southwell, who applied it to problems in stress analysis. It was later applied to steady-state heat conduction problems by H. W. Emmons and to steady-state flow of incompressible liquids by A. A. Zwierschowski. The solutions of problems involving the flow of gases through porous media is difficult for all but the simplest boundary conditions, and impractical for …
