The Structural And Magnetic Properties Of Nio/Mn(Ni)-Oxide Magnetic Heterostructured Nanocrystals Synthesized Under Varying Ph Values, Abdullah Al Shafe Aug 2020

The Structural And Magnetic Properties Of Nio/Mn(Ni)-Oxide Magnetic Heterostructured Nanocrystals Synthesized Under Varying Ph Values, Abdullah Al Shafe

MSU Graduate Theses

The role of pH on the structural, morphological, and magnetic properties of hydrothermally synthesized NiO-based magnetic heterostructured nanocrystals (MHNCs) is investigated. The NiO nanocrystals were synthesized using a two-step thermal decomposition process whereas the deposition of the surrounding Mn-based phases was accomplished by hydrothermal means at pH values ranging from 2.4 to 7.0. The resulting heterostructured nanocrystals consist of inverted AFM-FiM NiO/±MnxNi1-xO/±Mn3O4 bimagnetic/trimagnetic systems. A complete characterization of the MHNCs was carried using XRD, TEM, EDS, MPMS magnetometry and XPS analysis. Structural investigations revealed predominantly faceted MHNCs ranging in size from 24-30 nm …

A Study Of Copper And Aluminum Incorporated Chromium Oxide Core-Shell Magnetic Nanoparticles, Tamzid Ibn Minhaj Jan 2017

A Study Of Copper And Aluminum Incorporated Chromium Oxide Core-Shell Magnetic Nanoparticles, Tamzid Ibn Minhaj

MSU Graduate Theses

The structural and magnetic properties of copper (Cu) and aluminum (Al) -incorporated chromium oxide (α-Cr2O3, i.e., chromia) inverted core-shell nanoparticles (CSNs) were investigated. The objectives of this study were to determine the role of the substituting (for chromium, Cr) element and of Cu concentration on governing the magnetic properties of the CSNs. For synthesis of the CSNs, α-Cr2O3 nanoparticles were first grown using microwave assisted synthesis whereupon a hydrothermal nanophase epitaxy (HNE) method was used to incorporate Cu or Al in the chromia-based shell of the nanoparticles. The morphology, structure and size characteristics …

Comparative Characterization Of Molybdenum Oxide Thin Films Grown On Various Substrates Using Temporally Different Pulsed Laser Deposition Techniques, Krishna Harsha Puppala Jan 2016

Comparative Characterization Of Molybdenum Oxide Thin Films Grown On Various Substrates Using Temporally Different Pulsed Laser Deposition Techniques, Krishna Harsha Puppala

MSU Graduate Theses

Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) technique, with its vast tunability in terms of thin film fabrication has been the center of this study. By changing the temporal component of the laser source used for deposition into the femtosecond (fs) regime, interesting structural, morphological changes can be achieved which may prove to be beneficial for photocatalytic applications. In particular, molybdenum oxide thin films, which are the less well-studied and potentially newer candidates for photocatalysis applications have been chosen for investigation. Hence, a detailed characterization study of molybdenum oxide thin films synthesized using femtosecond-based (f-PLD) and nanosecond-based (n-PLD) techniques, was carried out in …

Investigation Of Lanthanide-Doped Anatase Tio2 Core-Shell Nanoparticles For Photocatalysis And Gas Sensing, Rezwanur Rahman Jan 2015

Investigation Of Lanthanide-Doped Anatase Tio2 Core-Shell Nanoparticles For Photocatalysis And Gas Sensing, Rezwanur Rahman

MSU Graduate Theses

Anatase TiO2 has been shown to be potential applications for photo-remediation of chemical waste as well as for photocatalytic splitting of water. The catalytic properties of TiO2 materials can be modified by doping with lanthanide (Ln) ions. In order to minimize the distortion and/or change of the structure of TiO2 nanoparticles, surface doping of anatase TiO2 nanoparticles (~ 14 nm) with several Ln ions (Nd3+, Gd3+, Eu3+, Yb3+) has been successfully made. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman characterization shows that the anatase phase of treated nanoparticles is well preserved. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) shows that the majority of the nanoparticles …
