The Politicization Of School Reopenings: Media Coverage Of Teachers Unions, Sarah King

The process of school reopenings during the COVID-19 pandemic has garnered a significant amount of attention from various stakeholders including parents, school administrators, teachers, teachers’ unions, and the media. Negotiations over elements of school reopening policies, such as mask mandates and remote-learning options have, in certain school districts, been fraught with contention. The politicization of school reopening policies has been the source of a growing body of research, which tends to analyze policy decisions in conjunction with COVID data. True crime podcasts are a favorite among listeners everywhere. Their dramatic, intriguing, real-world stories have a way of pulling in people. Once you have been sucked into this community there is no escaping. For armchair detectives everywhere, true crime podcasts are an entertainment staple. These podcasts tell us stories of the worst criminals known to man. But is there more to these episodes than just a surface-level story? What are the deeper messages that these podcasts are sending?

Understanding The Effect Of News Media And Social Media On First Responders, Jane M. Tucker, Michele P. Bratina, Briana Caprio

Over the last twenty years, technological advances have created the opportunity to disseminate information to millions of end users within seconds. Empirical studies have indicated that this engagement with technology (particularly through social networking sites) has an influence on individual stress. Terms such as “technostress” and “social networking stress” have been invented to describe these conditions. Most studies, however, have not taken into consideration the occupation of the user. The current study investigates the influence of media, news media and social media, on first responders (firefighters, emergency medical personnel, police officers, dispatchers) and their self-reported stress levels. Writing Towards Radicalism: On Biased Reporting & Its Effects On U.S. Extremism, Martha Tyler
Cybersecurity Undergraduate Research Showcase
Perceived influxes in biased reporting, disparities in reporting versus reality, and other factors have led many Americans to question the legitimacy of their most-frequented sources. These sentiments have encouraged migration from traditional sources to alternative ones, exposing many Americans to polarizing media. This report argues that unaddressed inadequacies in reporting force Americans to contend with a distorted reality or try their luck on the path toward alternative media.
