In 1 Timothy, Paul says, ". . . devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture," to his friend Timothy. Participants are invited (not required) to present a text they have worked on in advance for discussion, encouragement, and constructive critique. Those who are unfamiliar with this style of Scripture presentation may hear familiar texts anew!
