In her article “Recovering the Archive and Finding Forgiveness in Park’s The Truth Commissioner,” the author utilizes Jacque Derrida's theories about the function of archivization and the “impossible madness” of pure forgiveness to examine how these issues are addressed in post peace process Troubles fiction, focusing specifically on David Park's 2008 novel The Truth Commissioner. Park's text provides a particularly relevant example of the tension that Derrida outlines between the need for an unconditional, pure, and "hyperbolic" forgiveness and the conditional, judicial forgiveness that he associates with the truth recovery process.

In Life After Life (2013), British writer Kate Atkinson returns to the rewriting of History as her-story that characterized her early fiction. The protagonist’s lifespan overlaps with the major historical events of the twentieth century, allowing the writer to explore how those affected the individual lives of women and, at the same time, problematizing history, memory, and the past. Above all, Life After Life highlights the deep vulnerability of women to systemic gender violence, although it also emphasizes women’s resilience. In his article "Genre Categorization in Contemporary British and US-American Novels" Carlos Ceia discusses a certain type of resistance to genre categorization in many novels in contemporary literature. Many British and US-American contemporary novels show patterns in narrative creativity where novel-writing techniques are sometimes more important than the traditional subject matter driven work of fiction. Ceia reviews experimental/metafictional novels which do not show intent to fulfil an aesthetic role pre-determined in a certain moment in history.
